Been away for a few days and nothing changes!

Cheers Thor it's always nice to see an intelligent and informed viewpoint. Let's hope this guy get's back to his best with us. Some people on here think like our England football team, up and at 'em without much style. Any informed thought is much appreciated.

    1999–2004 ÍBV 72 (37)
    2004–2006 Halmstads BK 38 (16)
    2006–2007 Hannover 96 7 (0)
    2007–2008 → Vålerenga I.F. (loan) 16 (4)
    2008– Esbjerg fB 22 (2)
    2010 → Reading (loan) 4 (0)

26 games and 2 goals in 2 seasons is a bit worrying. And 2006/7 & 2007/8 are hardly encouraging. Makes Matt Harrold prolific.

I'll be the first to admit he lost his way after suffering those injuries at Hannover but he only needs the right club to stick by him and he will deliver. He is at the best age now. But I can well understand people thinking he is not up to it looking at the last few seasons stats. Thats just common sense.

common sense is normally in short supply on here. Well I hope he does succeed and prove to be a success at The Valley. I hope he plays at Welling next week so I can see him for myself. So agent or relative or the man himself ?

I disclosed that information to the admi when I joined and I dont think its right to shout in out here now. When or if all goes well, I will reveal it.

Thanks very much for the information. Hope that his trial with the club goes well...

Good Luck with the trial, hope it all comes good for both parties and you get your fitness and goals flooding back.

Although you may have to wait a while to play real Madrid again (If you stay here)

Thorvaldsson injured his hip on Saturday and is out for 7 to 10 days according to Parky.

If you trace his ancestory you'll no doubt find that he is related to Duke Mackenzie as well.

That's a shame ...... Parky's obviously seen him at the training ground - wonder what he thinks of him so far.....?

“I feel a bit sorry for Gunnar - he will be out for seven to 10 days,” said Parkinson. “I’ve seen him play quite a few times for Reading and he’s a decent player but he wasn’t really able to show that on Saturday.”

injury prone, record says so, can't afford a gamble.

That surely depends on the nature of the injury ....... if it's related to the previous long term injury, maybe you've got a point.

If it's something different that he picked up on Saturday as a result of a knock, then it's hardly relevant.
Then no more injury prone than any other player out there.

Quite a few times? Those stats say he only made 7 appearances for Reading, how many times can Parky have watched him!

Could Thor tell us if the hip injury is similar to the injuries he has suffered previously?

In reply to Oggy from the previous page. It may not be related but you and I know that you just get some unlucky players who seem to get injury after injury none related but they are just injury prone. McKenzie last season was a case in point and it was a point made by many when he signed, that he is injury prone. And so it proved to be. Thor seems to fall into that category too, imo.

Maybe, Large. But first of all, Thor needs to be given his chance to prove his fitness.
He has time in the next few weeks, perhaps ..... unlike McKenzie, who was signed as a last minute 'end of transfer window' signing.

I agree McKenzie was a gamble and it didn't pay off with hindsight - but it might have done. McKenzie had the experience and 'know how'; he was often fit enough for a couple more 20 minute sub appearances which might have resulted in a goal or two (or assists) that may have clinched us automatic promotion. All conjecture, I know.

The point that Parky actually made last season, was the fact that any player who is injured for a number of games and loses match fitness is liable to pick up niggles or a fresh, unrelated injury as soon as he plays a 1st team match.

That could apply to any player, but of courses older players tend to more be vulnerable. And Parky himself, specifically mentioned McKenzie as an example.

On the other hand, you can sign a perfectly healthy footballer with no track record of injury - and then he suffers serious injury from a reckless tackle, and misses the remainder of the season (like Basey, last season). Is he now injury prone?

There are so many factors involved, you need to look deeper than a blanket term like 'injury prone'.
  • McKenzie may have been a late signing but he surely wasn't signed on a whim. If Parky has seen Thor "a few times" then he should have seen McKenzie a couple of times and looked at his record so details of his fitness levels and the knock-on affect of picking up niggles should have been known and factored in.

Still surprised by how few games Mckenzie played. Didn't think he's be that injury prone and when he did play he didn't look that good for the last 20 mins of games. And, Parky didn't really want to play him when fit. Shame.

Hmmm we need a lucky striker. one who doesn't get a string of injuries (Like Todorov, Pringle, Lisbie etc) Killer and Flash always seemed to play through their injuries. Shearer seemed to play every week. If Thor got himself injured in 45 minutes and missed an open goal, well he doesn't seem like a lucky striker. Not that I'm damning him mind. It's all about confidence.
