No good but Solly seems to have filled in well, for one game at least.

I blame Curbs for getting such an injury prone player. Players only get injured at Charlton you know : - )

I feared at the time this would be a bad one.

Seen it too many times before...

Probably will back for the last few games of the season :-(

Obviously you're joking but there is an element of truth in that. Players at other clubs seem to come back within days, last week Vermaelen had a suspected broken leg, he played again 4 days later! Ours get seemingly innocuous injuries that take about 6 months to heal.
Or they never come back. Poole, Rowett, Holmes, Hunt. Is there a club with as many retired injured players as us?

Not forgetting the Daddy of the treatment room Cory Gibbs!

Is there an element of truth or is it that we are more interested and so more aware of injuries at our own club. Poole, Rowett, Holmes and Hunt were all a long time ago now.

Vermaelen clearly hadn't broken his leg meanwhile Elliot went off injured and played the next game.

    You missed Mendonca and Rufus.
  • It's been a real blow having Youga out injured.
Was hoping to see him back in the next few weeks, then we could switch Solly over to his natural position on the right and 'rest' Richardson.
  • From the OS:

The Addicks have no fresh injuries or suspensions for the trip to The County Ground, although Kelly Youga will again miss out after being told he will need to rest for a further two weeks before his knee injury is again assessed.

"I'm disappointed by that," Parkinson said. "It's about 12 weeks since he suffered the injury and we're being told he still needs to rest. We've sent him for every scan possible to try to get to the bottom of it but unfortunately nature has to take its course with these injuries.

"Don't get me wrong, Grant Basey and Chris Solly have done well in Kelly's absence but we've missed him. Kelly gives us that power and pace and he's a good header of the ball defensively at set-plays."

Solly did well the other night,. worth another chance on Sat. Big blow to lose Youga but imho he is not as important to the team as some others.

Vermaelen is a bit of an extreme example! You could have quoted RVP instead and got a very different picture

Parky says ...."Kelly gives us that power and pace and he's a good header of the ball defensively at set-plays."

We've definitely missed his athleticsm and thrust down that left hand side - Basey just doesn't have that in his game.
  • If we're talking injuries how about Ricardo Fuller who I believe was on our books for ages, injured and never played.
  • only on trial

Imminent return in Charlton terms can mean months. If Kelly's only at Light-at-the-end-of the-tunnel phase it could be a long time before we see him again!

Sounds like very professional analysis though...

This is going to run and run, unlike Kelly.

Ketman said a while ago it was all in his head. Seems more and more likely IMHO.

explains why we need Forch with Fry extensibly LB cover. Doesn't explain why RM thinks we can sell him when fit.

Youga had a big row with our physio as he thought he wasn't being treated right. Parky rates him highly and let him go to France for treatment -Youga did not keep in touch as promised. Think he would have wanted to leave but of course nobody wants to buy an injured player so he is working to get fit. Whether injury isin his head or not might change depending on who you ask. The bottom line is that Youga is a Charlton player for the near future and will be available for selection when deemed fit.

Well, we won't sell him in this window, that's for sure.

That's interesting, because we have one just the same at KCCC - Robbie Joseph.

The parallels of their career progression are uncanny.

RJ started as a truly wayward fast bowler, prone to bowling a few great attacking balls but then to lose us matches through a wild and ludicrous proliferation of wides and no-balls. As a result, Kent supporters learnt to groan when they saw his name on the scorecard.

Then he had a wonderful but brief purple patch in which he could do no wrong, hoovered up wickets like it was going out of style and kept winning man of the match awards.

It lasted about half a season, but as a result he became a minor talismanic folk hero. Then he got injured - and over the last 15 months we have been promised countless times that he's about to return, only for him to suffer another setback.

The latest is that he's out for the rest of the season but is undergoing further surgery with a view to a comeback in 2011. Dark mutterings from behind the scenes that the problem lies more in his head than his body.

Translate the cricketing references to their footballing equivalents - and does it remind you of anyone?
