Today double swoop has not impressed me as much as some of the others starting reek a bit desperation to me.

Bit disappointed we didn't get a more experienced keeper in as we have 2 young keepers now, but as Parky explains he will use that route for a loan if necessary

Good news imho, we need someone to sit on the bench and hopefully challenge Robbie. Doubt we can afford much better and strikers must be the priority. Would have been good I guess for an older keeper for Robbie to learn off but there is Andy Woodman at the club and Robbie and Randolph did well enough in the last year and a bit without a 30+ keeper also challenging.

Hope that if Robbie does pick up a knock, Worner is given a chance rather than someone being bought in on loan who is not much better.
  • Will this keeper be a keeper?
  • how is Worner going to feel to know that if he gets a chance to play, we're just going to get a new keeper in so he won't actually get a game?

Pretty sure he won't mind for the time being if a more experienced keeper comes in on loan and goes straight in. His made a big leap from woking to play for us. His still young and will probably only improove

He's not in a position to moan, we've signed him from Woking. Plus, we've told him the situation from the off so he knows the score.

He'll play if Eliiot is sent off or injured in a game.

Perhaps we could sent him out on loan to gain some experience ....?

    No, I thought not.

    ;o)
  • Can understand the loan comment, although would be good to see him get the nod. But, say for instance, and touch wood for our sake, Robbie picks up a bad injury, can we really rely on a young 'keeper from Woking to push us on and achieve? I for one, don't think so.

Maybe if Robbie does get an injury, Parky will learn from last season and bring in an experienced keeper to cover Worner rather than a keeper to directly replace Elliot like with Ikeme, not saying Worner is as good as Randy but maybe he is more capable than we may think. Guess it depends on how good Worner actually is.

Agree, not exactly the best motivation for him to improve though is it?
  • Ross will get his chance to prove, i can see him playing in the Carlingcup etc,

Oh no ......look at his previous connections .....! :

"It was Frank Gray - father of former Addicks striker Andy - who gave Worner his chance against Cambridge United early in the 2007/08 campaign.

In his formative years, he spent time on the books of Millwall from the age of nine and into his teens, but after leaving the Lions for Crystal Palace, a mix-up with his registration left him disillusioned with the game."

The last ex-Millwall keeper we had here was Nicky Johns.

We only have 2 keepers, so if Robbie OR Worner get injured or suspended we'll have to get someone in on loan anyway. And in that scenario we would try and get the best keeper possible on loan.

But by signing Worner for a nominal fee, we're avoiding paying a big loan fee or sizeable loan wages, and will now only need to do so in an emergency.

Pretty sensible if you ask me.

And we've got a promising young keeper wth 3 years competitive non-League experience already, who really wants to be here.

Incidently, last season at Woking he was voted Player of the Year ......another PotY to add to our collection, with Francis and Dailly. He also picked up the Player of the season award from his manager.
