Anyone noticed how this has completely gone out of the game? Well... it's still in it because I've just seen Agger do it to Adam Johnson but you just don't see indirect free kicks given for it anymore do you?

Just had the same conversation about the same incident with my son.
Am I right in saying it used to be the only reason for an indirect free kick in the box?
Used to be really common didn't it

yep, thesedays refs just give a foul and a free kik rather than an indirect one

It certainly wasn't rare, but it's basically extinct now. Weird really as as far as I know, it's still in the rules.

What annoys me is the number of penalties given for obstruction, and also the fact that refs seem to deem a winger running directly into a defender a foul and a yellow card when the rules are very clear, the defender is under no obligation to simply get out of the attackers way, they just aren't allowed to move to block them off.
