Tough set of fixtures ahead for the next few weeks, 4 of the current top 6, could be make or break the season time already me thinks. How many points would be deemed acceptable? I'm going to go for an optmistic 9.

    Don't think it's make or break already by any stretch, it will however be interesting to see how the team performs against some of the supposedly 'better' teams in the division.

    Had plenty of time to 'gel' now, this will be a good judge of where we realistically expect to finish come May.

    We can beat Brighton, but i don't think we will. Draw.
    Point up at Carlisle you'd think
    We can beat Sheff Wed at home and i think we will.
    Swindon away a point would be acceptable.
    Peterborough away we will lose.

    I'd have a guess at 1 win, 3 draws and a defeat. Not really promotion form.

    I'd take 9, probably be satisfied with 7 to be honest. Probably the toughest run of games we'll have all season. As long as we get enough to stay in touch with the top 6. Yeovil, Bristol Rovers, Rochdale, Walsall and Hartlepool after this run of games - that's where the pressure is on to start picking up significant points.

    Yep, next 2 games against the top 2.

    This division is so tight / nondescript, you hardly notice.

    Now, last year if we were playing Leeds & Norwich there would have been a lot of discussion.

    We won't get a point at Carlisle. Anything more than 4 from Brighton and Sheffield Wednesday and 2 from Swindon and Peterborough away would be a bonus. So hopefully 8, more likely 6, maybe even less...

    Be over the moon with 9 - but think 7 is more realistic. Really hope that 'we've turned a corner' gelwise....

    We won 6 games in a row last season so how these next games could be considered make or break is beyond me. Anything more than 5 point and I'll be happy.

    Are these the five games that Henry Irivng said so-called 'fans' on another Charlton site are openly hoping we lose so they can get Parky out?

    I have to say, I felt almost physically sick when I read that and have deliberately refrained from checking out any other Charlton sites , just in case it's true and such morons really do exist !

    The actual results are unimportant to me. Onviously it would be great to win them all.
    My hope is that we have a slightly better team at the end of them than we have today.
    And that a steady improvement continues. into next season.

    Not make or break but poor results across all 5 could have major effect on moral. However last season we picked up 0 points from the Brighton and Carlisle games and only one from Swindon, Norwich and Millwall games which I am using as the Posh and Wednesday equivalents, so 3 points from those games and we still finished 4th. A haul of 9 points would be great, but 6 is probably more realistic.

    This is true Kap but last season we beat the sides down the bottom to enable us to finish high up. This season we haven't done that, failing to beat Exeter, Tranmere, Dagenham Brentford,

    I know it's a bit doom and gloom but i can't see us winning any of the aways. I'd happily take a point from any of them now.
    Brighton at home i think will be a draw. Sheff Weds are as hit and miss as us so who knows what will happen there. All in all i think if we get 2 wins (or a win and 3 draws) from those 5 games we'll have done ok.

    Added to this, if we get drawn away in the FA Cup first round, then along with the JPT game we'll have 4 away games in 11 days.

    No we didn't, last season we had quite a few draws and the odd defeat to the bottom sides.

    It's about getting enough points over the season, rather than "teams who get promoted beat bottom 6 sides", as often said.

    Leeds finished 2nd just a few points above us, they had several slip ups themselves.

    Well i don't know who exactly you're classing as bottom sides then, because of the sides who went down (Gills, Southend, Stockport and Wycombe) we got 6 wins and 2 draws (20 points from 24). We also got 4 points against Tranmere, Brentford, Exeter, Oldham, Yeovil and Walsall. In fact apart from Orient at home i can't think of side in the lower reaches that we lost to.

    Those draws, along with the other two draws are the ones I was thinking of. That's 8 draws isn't it? They were teams we were "supposed" to beat if we wanted to get promoted. But we were in the top 6 all season with those results, which were no doubt considered not good enough at the time.

    A few results like those are fine along the way. We just had a couple more than we should have last season.

    I suspect we'll lose at Peterborough, but I think we may remain unbeaten until then and possibly win 3 of the 4 matches.
