No southbound traffic through the Blackwall tunnel this weekend

Closed from Friday night until Monday.

Will probably screw up traffic throughout both sides of the river as the Rotherhithe tunnel is southbound only.

You may have to review your travel plans for the Brighton game.

I see that the club have stuck on the website that congestion is expected on the A2 on Saturday because of this.

Call me thick - THICK! - but why? If anything the A2 southbound will be empty, whereas northbound it will surely be the same as normal, wont it?

Presumably, ThickOff_it, anything that would normally use to Rotherhite Tunnel to go north of the river will have to come across and go through the northbound bore of the Blackwall Tunnel, seeing as the Rotherhithe will be southbound only. That presumably will put quite a lot of extra traffic on the northbound A2. Plus the away team will be bring nearly 3000 fans from south of London, presumably adding further to the traffic on the A2.

Whether or not that would make it clog up completely I don't know but it will be busier than usual I'd imagine. All it'll take is one accident or breakdown and you'll have gridlock. I need to come south of the river anyway, but I'll be using public transport on Saturday.

Indeed. It was just a couple of Dads though driving a mini-bus. I was pretty sure it would be closed but didn't want to poke my nose in.

Northbound traffic will be using the southbound tunnel.

This will mean passing through the single lane that used to be used in peak hours.

Three lanes into one will be good fun.

    Gridlock is really likely.

why didn't they do it last week? Will leave early for the game and use the Woolwich ferry and hope the northbound coming back isn't too congested!

The Woolwich Foot Tunnel is also closed.

If it's a long queue for the ferry you could always leave the car on the north side and use the ferry as a pedestrian.

Except that your car probably wont be there when you get back. Absolute bob-hole over that side - and yes, I do mean in comparison to Woolwich!

We parked in Gallion's Reach and ended up walking all the way to The Valley ... and back.

Plus, we got scurvy on the Woolwich Ferry.

    What a cracking day out.

Things weren't helped by the nasty smash on Shooters Hill after the game. Road was closed from the entrance to the old Brook hospital down to the footbridge.

Looked bad. Firebrigade were cutting someone free.
