  • With Youga out for the season a bit worrying that his loan spell comes to an end in January.

Will we sign him permanently ?

    Extend the loan?

Who in the squad can take his place?
  • Have to think of a song for him and post it on Stupid Song Tuesday thread

let's hope we can extend the loan for the season. I'd much rather see Jackson in midfield and I thought at LB it was hampering his game and he didn't look comfortable. Fry is playing well too. For once we don't really have a LB coming through the reserves from the academy.

Agree he's playing well and would be happy with him as our left back for the season.

On the academy/reserve left backs, the club seem to rate Joe Carter, but he's probably a long way off the first team.

    Matt Fry says:
"I think sometimes young players can get carried away with the prestige of being at a Premier League club, but for me there is nothing better than playing every week.

"I love preparing for each game on a Thursday and then getting that Friday buzz. I am enjoying myself."

Seems like a young player who just loves playing football, head screwed on and all that.
  • I would love to see Fry stay till the end of the season , he's done well at left back , can't think of a song though?

Matty Fry , Matty Fry , Matty Fry etc... c'mon North Standers help me out!

"I have learned so much on the footballing side and also about how to live my life off the pitch - it's been invaluable."

Interesting comment and something I think Charlton fans have always thought about our club - its about more than just what happens on the pitch.

Important point you've made there, DRF.
  • We must try and keep him till the end of the season.

It's possible that us and WHU could then be in the same division - so we'd have a chance of signing him permanently...

Only some of them, to be fair. And not Fry or Martin, it seems.

It's funny, we only ever bang on about the atttitude of incoming loan players. What about when CAFC players go out to other clubs ?

I bet when we sent McLeod and Dickson out on loan they were lazy as hell - and Izzy certainly showed he didn't care a fig for Millwall, didn't he? ;-)

There is no proof that loan players are lazier than contract players. But much evidence to the contray. And is a a loan player differnt to a player with a year left on a contract.

I thought Fry was here for the season , but an option of returning in January . This is a new 'youth loan' so I am not 100% on this. There is also a 24 hour recall clause.

His long term future may become clearer after Saturday , if he plays against Barnet then he is Cup tied and I suspect if Wham wanted him back this season they would not allow him to play.

My only concern is their injury situation at the Back could worsen and Fry was registered to play this season as an Under 21.

I also suspect if Wham get relegated they would be keener to retain him next season after playing most of a L1 season with us.

It's nothing to do with laziness or attitude. The problem is that McLeod and Dickson are shit at football, but Matt Fry isn't.
  • Very modest description of his goal at Huddersfield!! He says he just swung his leg at it and it went in. No mention of the fact that he picked the ball up just outside his own penalty area, beat 4 or 5 attempted tackles as he stormed forward with the ball before firing it into the bottom corner from just outside the Huddersfield penalty area (albeit via a deflection). Seems like a very well balanced young man.

No, Matt Fry is only just getting into the Charlton side. If he stays with us until the end of the year he will probably get to play most games but I couldn't see any other team above the conference finding a place for him, so much better to stay with us.

I've also heard that Claret and Blue makes you look fat and that Little heath smells of poo.

To me he looks easily champ level, maybe more. I love his intelligent tenacity at closing down, and just seems effortless on the ball. Also he appears a little more dynamic on the outside than Jackson, so can overlap when Jackson can stay tight and help out Sem & Rac.

Really hope he stays. Local lad and must be good for him playing in week in week out near his family and friends. Always nice to see committed young players getting their chance.

Fry would be a great season long additon. Parky did a great job getting him here and now hopefully he can get Fry to stay longer. If we keep winning and push promotion with Fry fit, i dont see any reason why Fry wouldnt want to extend his loan spell.

anybody have an inside view on how WHAM feel about Fry ???

Not inside source but on other message boards general consensus is that he's seen as a decent prospect I think, they may well see him as equivalent to Solly- not first choice but a future 1st teamer.

I can't wait for them to come crashing to earth when they get relegated and find that Fry moves on because he's too good for them.
