Too short, too good as a winger, I scored 17 one season from right back. I got the last game up front that season and I was shit. Left it to the forwards after that0

He is doing excellent in his present position, and scoring goals. Why change it when it aint broken.0

Greta wingers are often seen as players who could be even better playing better in the middle but not until they start to get to the end of their careers do they make the position. I think Waggy would fair no better than other illustrious wingers and would suffer from a lot of hairy a..ed centre halves knocking him down0

Another goal on Thursday and a great finish so don't want to take that away from him, but is nobody a bit concerned about his overall performance again? I thought he was awful on Thursday besides the goal, especially in the first half. Hardly touched it and when he did he lost it. Reliable positionally and defensively and clearly a great eye for goal - obviously he's part of a winning team as well and I'm sure people would argue that we would notice it if we suddenly lost him, which may well be true, but I still just don't think he's that good...0

Difficult one - if he doesn't play well, but the team wins and he scores a goal you can't really leave him out can you?0

Its the same as when Llera scores a few goals people start saying they would like to see him play up front. The truth is scoring goals doesn't make you a forward, you have to play with your back to the goal for most of the time something waggy or Llera dont do in their normal positions. Its about making space and anticpation, i think waggy is very good but he is a very good winger not a forward. Horses for courses and all that0

Waggy scores most of his goals either running with the ball or because he moves in late from deeper positions, unmarked.

I used to watch Waggy for the under 16s and he played as a central striker and he was good there, because he was a decent finisher. But at that time he was as big as his opponents, now he isnt.He is a very athletic player and is suited to playing wide not only in an attacking sense but also as Henry says giving defensive help to Francis.I think he can only get better with experience.0

The problem with this is Racon wouldn't do the wider role so waggy would have to drop back to help francis otherwise he'll get overrun0 -

The problem with this is Racon wouldn't do the wider role so waggy would have to drop back to help francis otherwise he'll get overrun
He wouldnt be in a wide role, work with 3 central midfielders sitting inside with Francis and Fry as wing-backs0 -

As Henry said we'd miss his defending, he's great at worrying opposition players.
He has his off matches, like all players, but I think Waggy is quality and I hope we keep him for a long time, he has the potential to be a great player.0 -
Long term he is a winger, not a striker, therefore he needs to consistency play on the right. How else will he learn and develop out there. My big worry is that there are games when it seems he does virtually nothing or barely touches the ball. Nevertheless I don't see how playing him through the middle will help this. Also Francis has looked more solid with Waggy infront of him and despite Francis problems- they seem to have developed a decent partnership on the right. Also his workrate cannot be faulted and is perhaps better utilised out wide.
However, I would like to see Waggy go through the middle just to see how he would do and perhaps put the debate to bed, perhaps late in a game when the opposition are tired and there is more space. Not sure if it would work from thr start certainly in the League but would certainly be worth a look imho, even if it is only for 20mins.0 -

Sorry, I meant nothing in terms of on the ball play and attacking. I know he is very valuable in terms of off the ball work but sometimes especially at home when we are on the front foot, I think he needs to show a little more.0 -
Fair enough, Dan - although it's evident that he's not the finished article.
He's still a young player learning his trade, but he's come on a long way in the last year or so.
But I believe most of us are reasonably satisfied with his progress - and he has proven that on occasion he can produce quality match changing moments unexpectedly, like he did against Luton for example.0 -

As a winger he's not as good as Lloyd Sam but as a finisher he's miles ahead. Keep him out wide because he does do the graft and seems able to get some goals. He's also shown glimpses of what he can do out wide...Swindon away being a prime example, when he did a superb run and cross for Benson. It might be worth remembering that John Robinson took quite a while to look the part (he was crap for ages) and then finally got the hang of it. Wagstaff is probably ahead of Robinson at this stage of his career so we shouldn't give up on him as a winger yet.0

Yes - agree with this. I think he's ad a good season but he looks out of sorts on Thursday and the game before that too. Is he a confidence player?0
