Best Away Match You Have Ever Been To

For me it's got to be:

Charlton vs Crystal Palace - December 2004

Charlton supporters sang the roof off the stadium for 90 minutes. Johnson missed a penalty for Palace (Deano!!!) after which Dennis Rommedahl scored for the Addicks in the 93 minute (just a microsecond before the final whistle was blown). The sight of thousands of silent open-mouthed motionless Palace supporters was just unforgetable.

Would suspect for many it is Aston Villa 4-3 in 1999. There is a thread on that game somewhere.

For me, recently it is Carlisle this season. Loads of goals, entertaining, frustrating and then ecstacy. All that way for a 93rd min winner- went beserk. Loved it!

Edit: Forgot about Arsenal 4-2 at Higbury, that was by far the best. Sat in the North Bank stone silent but what a day. Still can picture Euell going through to make it 4.

    Recently, Carlisle this season.
Ever? Man U away in 1986. Was like winning the Cup Final.
  • Play off final at St Andrews...
  • Villa 4-3
    Coventry 3-2
    Millwall 2-0 in the snow
  • Has to be Coventry 2 v 3 charlton (fa cup - Jan 2000)

2-0 down to premiership covenrty and then goals from Robinson and Newton level it before half time and then Hunt scored in the last couple of minutes. Was only 11 at the time but can rememeber them sining to us "You're worse than Aston Villa" after they went 2-0 up, only for us to sing it 10 times louder after Hunts goal. still makes me smile today

3-2 win at Stamford bridge. Donkeys ago, when they had the electric fence was a great day out and still remember it now.

Play off final (does that count?)

Otherwise it has to Wimbledon in the league cup away at Selhurst, think it was 96?

Man U in 86 was special.
Leeds play-off final was the most tense. (followed by the battle of Stamford Bridge)
Coventry in the cup, when we came back from 2 down to win, was great fun.
    Arsenal 2-4 - unforgettable.

What a game, this is right up there for me too. I was 12 and I always remember being allowed to have a pound bet, which I put on cafc to win 3-2, cant remember how much I won but I do remember being far to interested in the football to care

    Results wise

    4-2 at Highbury
Knocking Chelsea out on pens in the cup
    5-1 at Peterboro this season

    Atmosphere/Day out wise

Old Trafford in the cup 94?
    Orient last season

The wins at Palace in 04 and 07 can be in both! Villa 99 in both as well!

    Haven't counted Wembley obviously

Chelsea vs Charlton Carling Cup 2005/06 season. According to the Special One we didn't win it yet, strangely, we were in the next round and they weren't! Bryan Hughes had some guts to step up and fire in the winning penalty. Unforgettable night!
  • away newcastle when we won 4-3 after being 3-0 down carlisle away 86 2-0 down 3-2 up so us promoted, chelsea away 1-1 put them in relegation play offs and saw us safe.

Unfortunately, I've missed most of the classics but loved 3-3 at Anfield. Part of a legendary boys weekend.

Only marred by the fact that I had a fiver on a double of 2-2 with Rufus as first scorer which would have given me a couple of grand - the one that got away.

F.A Cup V. Palace in '68/69. Two terrific Ray Treacey goals won it for us after 0-0 at the Valley. We seemed to out number them in a crowd of around 40,000! (And they missed a penalty!)

Was at that game, first big away game for my boys as well, at 2-0 down my then 7 year old through the tears said " were going to lose Daddy" i said no son we will win 3-2.

Huge smiles on thier faces at the end of the game, Cov fans were vile swearing and shouting at 7 year olds!!!

    Distant past......Old Trafford in 94 and 86......

Very distant past my first away Vs The Nigels in 1968-69 Season FA Cup replay.....wonderful night, followed by Arsenal at Highbury, where my feet literally didnt touch the ground....still have both programs....will probably go to the grave with me.
  • Ipswich 4-4 was a good one, Arsenal 4-2 sticks.
  • [cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]Play off final at St Andrews...

    I agree.

chelsea away last game of the season, think '87 or '88, more recently the 2-1 away at leeds with parker getting the winner near the end
  • 28th November 1970 - QPR 1- 4 Charlton Athletic
A brace apiece from Ray Treacy & Mike Kenning, had not won away for well over a season (35 games) and a result which effectively staved of relegation to the divition we find ouselves in now for at least another season.

5th - Palace in Cup replay '69 (2-0 with Charlton fans celebrating on pitch at the end if I remember right)
4th - Both Carlisle games where we won promotion
3rd - Beating The Arse 4-2 at Highbury
2nd - Battle of the Bridge
1st - Play off final v Leeds. Far and away the best / most relieved / elated feeling I've ever had.

Mind you I've seen us win at Chelsea, Man U and Liverpool - and they were special too.
