1985/1986 Team

Picked up a copy of the Football League Paper today and there is a piece on the 1985/1986 team, with an interview from Robert Lee. There is a photo of the official team photo at the Valley during the start of that season, and a summary of what each player is up to now. Peter Shirtliff is mentioned, but apart from that error, it’s a good article.

Here is a summary of what some of the old players are up to now, according to the paper.

Tony Towner: Has his own removal company in the Brighton area.
George Shipley: Assistant community officer at St James’s Park, Newcastle
Mark Stuart: Now works for a building society
Simeon Hodson: Community support officer with Warwickshire police
Tony Lange: Revenue protection officer for Southern Railways based in Brighton
John Pearson: Mortgage advisor, and commentates on Sheffield Wednesday matches on the club website.
Mike Flanagan: Works for a company that builds and fits swimming pools,
Mark Aizlewood: A technical director at the Welsh FA.
Carl Harris: Runs his family’s removal business in Neath.
Mark Reid: A driving instructor based in Irvine.

    Had Mark Stuart down as a fireman based in Rochdale but i could be wrong.

    I'm sure Johnny H is or was a PE teacher.

    Interesting that only 6 of that list were regulars. Can only remember seeing Towner once.

    Yes - Smallish right back with longish straight hair & a moustache.

    He is or was head of PE at Whitgift School in Croydon.

    oh the memeries my first season as a charlton surporter ,portsmouth 1-2 defeat at selhurst (sorry for swearing) john pearson and it saying not in picture peter shirtiff im sure he didnt sign for us until we went up 1986-87
