VFR, fantastic and heartfelt post, bought a tear to my eye. Stories like this really seem to have more of an effect since I've had a child.

I'm sure he appreciated everything you did for him.

VFR - it sounds like you were a true friend of Adams. You should be proud that you shared some great times together.

My condolences, of course, go to Adams family and friends.

I felt a mixture of sadness and pride reading your post mate,i thinks its lovely that you both had such a bond and it crossed over to Charlton, the staff at brent knowle do a great job and the pupils you come into contact will be very lucky in having someone with such empathy for the job that you do. Will whistle vfr at 11.30 thursday.

RIP Adam. There we all are moaning about late trains in the morning, poor weather and poor results for our footy team. Makes you think.

RIP - and to think ive been moaning about having this cold for ages. Tragic stuff.
  • when you see and hear of people REALLY struggling in life it makes you humble. i have worked with hundreds of people with disabilities over the years but one always sticks in my mind.i remember working as a home carer for a 19 stone bloke with motor neurone disease. he had been a hod carrier on building sites up until the previous year but when i met him could just above move his fingers, but couldnt hold a cup or move his arms or legs. he could only eat and drink through a straw due to his swallowing action deteriorating. i remember clearly that i'd been the only male carer he'd had and found out that he was a stounch 'blades' fan. being a typical yorkshire bloke the first thing he asked me was 'which team'. after much ribbing we hit it off and we spent hours at night talking about all things football. sadly he only lived for a few more months but i still smile whenever i think of him.

Sad to hear Adam's story but lovely to hear VFR that you added to the quality of his short life.

    RIP Adam.
