Didn't someone say his name last week?

Anyone know if he's been any good at West Ham?

    Someone did say his name.

Another ex-Palace...hope people will be able to cope!

Terrific bloke who preferred to play the game the "right way." It would be lovely to see him back.

I remember Curbs saying he was a really popular bloke when he played for us. Good to have in the building and all that. Don't know what he's like as a coach??

Seems to have been at West Ham quite a while now, if Powell wants him as his No.2 then that's good enough for me!

When we were in the Premiership and doing well under Curbs. if you had said a few years down the line we would be in the 3rd division and the manager would be Chris Powell and his assistant Alex Dyer, i would have thought you had been taking illicit substances. But here we are, hey ho.

For the money we spent Dyer was alright....blimey what do people expect for £100k! Pele?!

Apparently really funny bloke but was expecting someone a bit more shouty/nasty alongside SCP....with Peacock also there all seems a bit too nice.

  • Blimey, I was not expecting his name, I didn't even know he was coaching.

My abiding memory of Alex Dyer was of him getting out-paced by a 40 year-old Alvin Martin when we beat the Hamsters 1-0 at Upton Park early in the 1992/93 season. Pardew scored the goal!!!

    Heres his wiki entry :

Alexander Constantine "Alex" Dyer (born 14 November 1965, in Forest Gate, Greater London) is an English former footballer who played as a defender for eleven clubs in a seventeen-year professional career. He is currently reserve team coach at West Ham United. Having been employed for eight months as a PE Teacher in a South London school[1] in April 2004 he joined West Ham United as assistant to sports scientist Tony Strudwick.[2] His role at the club changed to conditioning coach in July 2007.[3] and following Kevin Keen's promotion to first team coach, reserve team coach in September 2008.[4][

Interesting he is referred to as a defender because he converted positions after leaving us.I vaguely remember him playing for Barnet and Notts County at Full Back

I'm not completely surprised because I remember when Powell signed for us he told the story about watching the play off final with Dyer

Alex Dyer bought me a beer once, so he's alright by me... A really, really nice bloke, as falconwood said I am a bit worried he is too nice though?

So we have nice guy Powell
    Nice guy Dyer

We need a real hard man to get the balance right - to even it all out. I think we need to hire Noel Blake. Nobody is gonna mess with him

Good to see, they both have a passion for our club.

When I was a younger chap back in the Craphurst days after we signed Alex Dyer, my brother and I would always give him a cheer and a chant as he was always one of the first players to run out for the warm up, he would always acknowledge us with a warm smile or cheerful little chat and always had time for the fans. When we returned to The Valley he did the same. Nice man and he always put in a shift, if Alex is back then I am happy!

Alex Dyer was alright for the money we paid and the level we were at at the time.

We owe a lot to good honest pros like Alex Dyer who put in good shifts for us in the early 90s during Curbs fledgling years. Less solid pros like him and we may well have sunk without a trace dring a pivotal time for the clubs very survival.

Welcome back Alex. Would that make us the only club with a black manager and a black assistant? Bit of 'positive discrimination' from Powelly there, perhaps?

Pezza, I have bought you a beer loads of times, so I must be a really, really, really, really nice bloke then.

Being an ex defender, him and Chris should sort our leaky defence out.

    He was a forward.

No real opinion on this to be honest. Chris knows what he wants. Personally i don't think you need to have a growling 'serious' man, i imagine Kins was that in the last regime. Modern day footballers don't react to that now like they used to. Dyer seems a bit of a joker by all accounts, i don't think that is a bad thing. Get the impression as a squad it needs to smile a bit more.

I don't think his playing abilities should be a worry. He's been climbing up the ladder as a coach at West Ham and has been there a while, so must be well thought of. You don't need a hard man as coach. And although SCP is a nice man it doesn't mean he won't work them hard or be firm when he needs to be. I have to trust Chrissy's judgement.
