Chris Powell and Bradley Wright-Phillips article

Hi, this is my second news shopper article on Charlton. Would be interesting to know what people thought (bare in mind I had to cut some things out because of the word limit, when I would have preferred to go into a little more detail).

http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/sport/8810339.COMMENT__Valley_legend_has_already_made_favourable_impression/

If you don't want to have a look, the basic points are:

- Wright-Phillips and Eccleston's pace should make for some more entertaining football, rather than lumping the ball long for Benson so often.
- Chris Powell's should help players like Matt Fry and eventually solidify the defence.
- Great to see Charlton's new owners spending money and the faith shown in Powell.
- First win since Luton in the cup and Yeovil in the league, so he's already done his first job which was to stabilise a sinking ship.
- Powell's an experienced old head when it comes to football, despite it being his first managerial job; so it's more than just appointing a popular crowd favourite.

Did you go to school ?
  • He's brought stability after one game? Stopped reading after that
  • If this is only your second piece for News Hopper, then well done. I rather like the way have made the attempt to get some feedback from Charlton supporters - we're more used to being ignored. Only two quibbles, it's far too early IMO to talk about stability and the squad under Parky wasn't so much unstable or sinking, more inconsistent and as already said, drifting. Waggy wasn't gifted the goal, he grafted for it. He had been tireless in his running and a lot of players wouldn't have bothered. He deserved a bit of credit for getting a goal out of nothing. Good luck in your time with News Hopper.

Second article and people are giving him stick rather than encouragement for spreading the word.

Fair enough disagree with his views but give the guy a chance to grow into writing a column. Not as easy as it seems what with the deadline and the word count.

Chris Powell finds your lack of faith disturbing.

The typo for sixth was my mistake and not Daniel's, so any criticism on that I will take.

I can also happily confirm he isn't Liam in disguise DRF.

Absolutely. Well done and keep it up.

p.s I still have press cuttings of my acting "triumphs" that appeared in the Newshopper in the 1980s. Never made the National Papers but the Newshopper was very much good enough for me and my local newspaper of choice! :-)

Anything on Charlton and spreading the word is good by me.

Some of the idiots on here will criticise anything, the slightest mistake and they are on your case.

Like they are perfect in everything they do !! Keep it up.

    Journalists nowadays *shakes head*

Good article though I'd like to hear some views on the more difficult questions - how the transfer came to pass (was it Powell's alone, or was the club already working on it), how the club views BWP's reported injury and whether the length of contract is a reflection of a concern and - given the problems we've had with "attitude" in the past, if there are any concerns about his slightly chequered past. I'm being picky though...
