Manchester United are chasing Charlton Athletic wonderkid Sean McGinty.
Republic of Ireland Under-17 centre-half McGinty, 15, has been attached to the Charlton academy since he was 12 and has also been tracked by several other Premier League scouts, says The Sun.

Hopefully it's just speculation, he first played in the u18s as an u15, then again a few times this season and made his reserve team debut. Played for Ireland u17s and was on standby for England schoolboys.
From what I've heard/read he's a good defender and leader, and the OS story about the new youth players said he's composed on the ball. Makes him sound like he could be a very good player one day.

one of McGinty's mates has written on his facebook:
"have united contacted charlton about you then?"
to which he replied:
"yea m8"0 -
Could mean anything, might offer him a trial or they might be trying to sign him. Clearly something is going on though.
Have to wait and see, would be a shame as players like him will get chances at a much younger age with us in League One. If they break into the team regularly they could play a big part in taking us to the Championship and then the Premiership (if we ever get back there of course).0 -
If he was to go could you blame him? Yes he would get a chance in our first team way before United's but as a footballer, signng for United is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity.0

Down to the way he goes about it really.
Look at Defoe when West Ham got relegated, requested a transfer straight away. Darren Bent just got on with it, knowing he'd most likely get some good offers and eventually left.
I know it's not exactly the same situation, but he won't be criticized if he goes about it the right way.0 -

He's 15 and therefore not under a pro-contract, we will though get some "development" compensation, to be agreed at a tribunal.0 -

sounds like we were not too unhappy with the deal - I recall £500k being the alleged up-front fee, anyone know if that is largely the end of it .... ie. we went more for money up front (given our situation)? Or are there substantial add-ons to potentially come our way in the future if Sean progresses well?0 -
I believe there are more add ons etc if Sean does progress. There is also a first option on a loan deal for him. He played in the Milk Cup which united won last week. Got MOM for the final.0

I've watched some of the videos of Richard Murray's meeting with the fans the other day, he confirmed Man Utd paid £475k in cash for McGinty. I'd imagine there are probably some additional clauses to add to that as well (first team appearance or international cap perhaps, maybe a sell on clause?).
If anyone's interested in how he's doing here's what the Man Utd FM researcher has said-
He's still happy with how his potential for FM has been rated, which would mean he could become a good Prem player one day. Going to be interesting to see how he does over the next few years. We might even get him back here one day on loan.He's done ok, had quite a disrupted start to the season because he was away a few times with Ireland, and we've got pretty impressive depth at centre-back so he sort of fell a little behind. He's played in 8 of our 13 academy league games so far, and started our only Youth Cup game to date - quite a lot of those he's played at left-back though, where he looks a little uncomfortable. Made his debut for our reserves on Monday, was shaky but was part of essentially an academy defence pitched in against quite a strong Bolton reserve front-line so that's to be expected I guess.0 -

Watched him a lot for the under 18s,is very strong in the air and in the tackle, not overly quick. But i was very disappointed when he left and he is just the sort of player we need in the centre of defence at the moment. Would definately be in the first team squad if he had stayed.0

From the feedback I don't blame him for leaving. United is understandably a different world from Charlton. Once in a lifetime chance IMO.
Been making some appearences for the reserves, playing with the likes of Wes Brown, Obertan, Scholes, O'Shea.
Part of the deal was to have a first option. That might not be too far along the line. When he's 18/19 he might need a year in the Football League.0 -
Played a blinder in the FA Youth Cup Semi against Chelsea at Old Trafford. United have molded him into a John O'Shea-esque full back. Put in a blinding cross for the 2nd goal. Could do a job for us next season!0

my old man is a massive utd fan, he has mutv, he invited me round to watch the game the other night, I declined becoz unless it's Charlton im not bovverred. He told me the next day utd have 2 players who are very very good. I asked him today what McGinty was like, he said he's one of the 2. ;-(0
