Colleague at work says do you know Andy Peake? Too right I said, well he is my cousin, she tells me! A policeman in Leicester now

    He was mates with my next door neighbour Peter. He used to wander around outside my house with his daft curly hair. Peakey's rocket! Still waiting. What did he get a couple in about 5 seasons?

    I remember the Peaky rocket in the fantastic 4-4 at portman road. That game will live in the minds of those attending forever , especially Morts forward roll after his goal

    Remember he let fly from about 30yards once and it hit the crossbar almost breaking it in half,against Southampton back in The Selhurst days.Speaking of bars you could have found him in The Horse and Groom in Sidcup back then drinking with Mark Reid,Steve Thompson John Pearson and Kenny Samson of Arsenal.

    Pretty sure Andy Peake was best mates with Gary Lineker from their Leicester days.

    I remember him at Selhurst craftily making the w*nker sign to his opponent, just out of view of the ref but specifically so that we in the Arthur Waite stand could see.

    Hmmmm, I remember Lennie poaching him for Boro for about 75,000 when we were skint and Peakie going on to do really well for them as well.

    Could not complain too much since Lennie had brought Peakie in from Grimsby for next to nothing in the first place.

    The big problem was that Peakie's Rocket was our only free kick option for about three seasons.

    Freekick specialists - thinking about it there aren't many in the modern game are there?
    No one that springs to mind at the moment like Carlos, Beckham, Juninho, Koeman.

    Mihajlović and Pirlo should be added to that list. Mihajlović is the all time record scorer of free kicks in Serie A, and once scored a hat trick of 'em.

    When was the last time we had a good free kick taker? Jensen? Murphy?

    Steve Brown had his own version of the Peakie-rocket. Not sure if they ever worked either. He scored a couple of long range power blasters (like against Bradford 97/98), but not sure they were ever from free kicks.

    Ah Ronaldo, that's true. Can't think of many more though. And I'm sure Carlos scored more free kicks than the France one

    He probably did but ever since that one against France (which I maintain was a fluke) I rarely saw any of his go for less than a throw-in!
