Stick fortune up front with bwp,he used to play up front before he was converted to centre back.Bags of experience and although now slow would be ahandful in the air for any defence.good finisher too........just trying to think outside the box with the poor squad we have at our disposal.

  • We've just brought a 6'3" young promising striker from a PL club in on loan.

How embarrassing would it be to START (i.e. not shove someone up top on 85 minutes in desperation) with a centre half up front when we have 3 strikers on our books of a range of styles and Wagstaff who can also play off someone up there
  • Oh please !

Nouble promising your having a laugh and wagstaff a forward he aint even a decent midfielder, suppose it would be ridiculous to suggest playing a rookie right footed right back left back too !

So playing a semi-fit centre-back in attack is ok, but playing a young/inexperienced loanee who is a striker isn't worth considering, neither is it worth playing a winger with a number of goals this season in the forward line?

Fortune started his career up front until he was converted into a centre half by the then Youth Team coach Terry Westley. He was awful up front when I saw him in the Youth Cup in the mid nineties.

    Stick him somewhere...

It's because of the reliance of antiquated legs like his we're where we are today...

Put Simon Francis up front - at least then when he gives the ball away it won't be in our own half!!

More seriously hasn't Kyle Read also played up front as well as on the wing - especially since playing with two wingers doesn't work when the opposition crowd out the centre of midfield.

Stick Elliot up front, Doc in centre mid, Fortune left wing, Waggy centre half and Reid in goal.

    That "outside the box" enough?

Now thats just being stupid...............Reid aint tall enough for a keeper
  • I don't think fortune up front would make us stronger, but I think its pretty poor how others on here are slating you for a creative idea...

throughout this bad run we've used the same players pretty well, so why not shake things up a bit?

Horses for courses...You wouldn't have put Red Rum in a 5 furlong sprint, you wouldn't put Usain Bolt in the swimming team, so why would you put Fortune up front?

At the age of 57 I had to run 100 yards for my bus today - faster than Fortune could manage

"creative"? playing a centre half up front is "creative"?

It might have been "creative" in 1955 but I don't honestly think you can call it that now... desperate perhaps but in no way "creative"
  • If not yet, then at what point do we become desperate? ;))

the point I was trying to make was, the squad is clearly weak but we should be utilising out resources as best we can.

Putting an injury-prone, hobbled defender up front is NOT utilising resources well. At all. Ever.

Have you not noticed that Fortune has lost about 50% mobility - we would be better off considering Llera up front but we have front players who should be good enough -it's just getting service to them that;s the issue.

As they get older players tend to drop to positions further back where the running demands are not so great and where the play is in front of them. I don't think that pushing a bloke forward who's lost his pace to the point that he's now struggling at centre back is going to work, he just hasn't got the legs.

Why not give Keefie an outing? He must be dying to get his boots back on

    Killer back up front too!
