Really used to enjoy watching that game, the goals were quality especially the Morts one.

I think ive got an old vhs of it recorded off sky, havent seen it online anywhere. That was a cracking game, Browns long range effort, Morts with a twisting run and finish and Peter Beagrie trying to plant one on Brown.

Not to forget the good finishes Mendonca made.

I suppose apart from the play offs that was our best home performance. Everything about that game was spot on.

Would be brilliant if Charlton can upload that on CAFCTV!

    Wasn't it FA 3rd round 96?

    Edit: No Bradford not Brentford!

Hi - first post, so go easy on me! I remember that game for several reasons - their goal was a blatant handball (Edinho?), they had Eddie Youds playing for them, Brown's goal was a screamer, Mendonca bagged a brace, Morts beat their whole team twice, there were two brawls, and I touched the ball in the stand for the first time ever. Just as memorably, it was the only game my sister went to and she thought it was boring. Heaven help if she saw a match recently! I'd love to see the highlights again.

    Same here!

I sent a cheeky message to Charlton asking to load it up on CAFC Player

What a great season that was. Favourites to go down and ended up triumphing at Wembley to get promoted with Forest and Middlesbrough. The first game was at relegated Middlesbrough and Ravanelli (before he was inevitabley sold) scored a last minute goal for a 2-1 defeat. The signing of Youds and Mills (after he'd turned out for the Championship XI (managed by Curbs) v Serie B XI at The Valley) in March was the turning point and we went on that mazy run not conceding and winning every game including 1-0 against Port Vale despite being on the back foot and 1-0 at Swindon in the pouring rain. Mendonca was an inspired signing in Summer 1997 scoring 28 goals in that debut season. Shame his career was cut short through injury and really didn't get the chance to prove himself at the top level. Other heroes were Sasa Ilic poached from non-league who went 13 hours without conceding and the midfield drive of captain Mark Kinsella and the never-say-die attitude of John Robinson who always used to end up playing 2-3 positions most game including full-backs.

Hey Spankie! Me and Matt went to the Port Vale game, it was a free travel game. I can't remember us get so conclusively outplayed for 90 minutes and stealing a win, was a great day out :)
