Won't be easy at such short notice and i would have thought a championship or prem club would be unthinkable. Best chance in my opinion would be to put the feelers out for foreign teams over here then at a loose end, for example i know Betis are here then and have been hawking after a newcastle or boro friendly to no avail.0

Woking away. Nice little ground, saw the women's team play there once, shit town for pubs but only 20 mins from Waterloo. Hasn't Airman Brown said the Reading game is off. Is this going to be the second summer in a row without a home friendly (was it last year we had to call off the Spurs game)? Makes us look double pony if so.

And the Spurs game was because of police fears, and hence costs, regarding violence following an incident between fans of the two clubs a few years ago.

more likely it was called off because neither manager thought it a good idea to play each other in a friendly just two weeks before we played a competitive match. If you want to think otherwise then fair enough.0

The reason that the Reading game might not be viable is that it would be a stupid idea to play them twice in two weeks in fixtures that most fans aren't interested in - but even if it would break even, we don't want to play them twice.
Chris Powell is keen to have a home friendly open to the public. A fixture against most teams in the top two divisions would stack up financially. It has more to do with whether they are available at this stage and willing to come.

Yes. Because not enough people would attend the friendly (as fans would prioritise the cup game instead) to make it financially viable. Last summer's Spurs game was called off because the policing cost estimate made it not financially viable. We have called off our home friendly two summers in a row BECAUSE WE COULDN'T AFFORD TO HOLD THEM (as we would have lost money on them) as I said. That is a cast iron fact, yet still there are people arguing against it. You can't argue against facts, that's why they are called FACTS. @spiritof1947 similar sceniro would be Arsenal arranging a friendly with say Inter Milan and then drawing them in the qualifying round of the champions league....can you see them playing the friendly a couple of weeks beforehand?!?!

Probably Millwall and whoever replaces Reading. The rest are all doubtful and it would be only one at most, unless the put an XI out somewhere in Essex.0

But it is the Carling cup, not the Champions league and who would gain the advantage from the game going ahead? I would have thought the fact that we are playing Reading in the cup might add a little spice but most people going will be there to see how we are stacking up for the season ahead so surely it doesn't matter who we play as long as they give us a test. The match should have gone ahead IMO.

I assume so, that's what I'm planning to do - anyway, the only way to get tickets in advance is from Welling itself0
