Always thought he got unfairly dumped on at Charlton. He should never have been announced as permanent manager after Dowie. Caretaker by all means but not permanent. If he'd had a good run and impressed the board then give him the job but saying that he was the man hinted at desparation.

Nice man, very good Coach, unfortunately let down by Richard Murray, wish him well.
  • Always was a stopgap for Pardew when made manager.

So he wasn't let down by the cack he inherited from Dowie?
  • Excellent coach for us in the play off final season. Never management material. The best coaches very rarely are. I wish him well

He and  Alan Curbishley were a bit of a Clough/Taylor act. But like Taylor, Reed was all at sea without his mate (excuse the unintentional metaphor!)

AND a top analyst/coach but definitely not a manager. If he were put alongside plonker Stuart Pearce with the England Under 21s, we might have a lot more hope for the production line of future England senior players. Southampton have got a clever and principled man on their board.

A man of principles?? In football?? Surely not.  He is letting down the likes of Bryan Robson, Winston Bogarde and Peter Ridsdale.  Agree with Lincs and MOG on this one

I'll never forget his comment about prozone stats after the heavy defeat at White Hart Lane. Should have been kept as a coach and not been made permanent manager.
