Consistently slated as an actual footballer by fans of Norwich, some Leeds and Scunthorpe...slated with a special kind of passion by some (as in the worst player ever etc). Consistently praised for effort and aggression.
Probably like McOxo in terms of ability, but Kinsella in terms of attitude.
This may be a 'balance' signing where his presence is about what we should be aspiring to rather than his footballing skill. If he really is as mad as he seems, then provided he gets it, and is able to play it simply to one of our real footballers, then may be a good signing...
I expect him to be a bit of a cult hero.

versatility is key now, especially with 5 subs sounds passionate, and if he's told to do a job he'll do it and put his heart in it.
hope to see an appearance on saturday.

They released Josh wright this summer who hasn't found a club yet. He was meant to be the next big thing.

he has just gone on holiday to Spain and is apparently joining the Only Way is Essex in September - not sure he will have time or inclination for football:

I heard it was more of a case that he didn't want to renew as he wanted to move back down south
  • A Terry Naylor type signing  - the old spurs player who helped us up in 81 not the poster on here ; - )
If Hughes plays like Terry played in 81 we'd deffo go up.

On the OS interview it say Hughes was told on Saturday that Charlton had come in for him.

He was withdrawn from Scunthorpe's game on Saturday to have talks

So seems Powell wanted him BEFORE the Millwall game. Solly's performance v Spanners did not instigate the move as some have speculated.

I'm thinking that perhaps someone has come in for Francis this weekend gone.

I'd say Hughes is more of a back-up for Hollands. A holding midfielder. Alonso back-up for Stephens.

    Good signing.
  • Never seen the bloke but I just doubt that Alonso would be back up for anyone at league one level.

  • Smart Signing This,

Think right, Over the season if  we get INJ's we've got plenty of cover

Hughes can play MF and WB's so that adds additional cover, exp with 5 bench places, need some players who are versatile, happy with it

That's what we're missing. A 110 per-center. Far too many 100% players on our books for my liking. :-D

Agree. No way has he come over here to be a squad player.

The way Stephens and Hollands have been playing he might not have a choice.

True but I'm sure he signed expecting to play regularly, as did Stephens and Hollands.

Well, he's going to have to play catch up with the others. It's now down to Alonso to win a spot in the stating line-up. I just find it nice when we have these sort of selection dilemmas.
  • re: Andy HughesI can't believe it either but i'm trying to destroy all video evidence of him playing to try and help this deal go through .

As seen on the Scunthorpe message board.

Is Hughes a Leeds fan though? Maybe that's why he gave so much effort. Just a little concerned with what the Scunthorpe lot are saying, even though they had a terrible season if he gave everything for them then surely they wouldn't be so keen to get rid. Doesn't just seem like sour grapes - sounds a lot like us with McCormack.
