i have been doing some research on our new keeper ben hamer! watching exeter player! he looks a very very good shot stopper looks good a close range too many brilliant saves and good goal kick and drop kicks. also comes for crosses well and catches and punches well from corners. good number of clean sheets too! and at 6ft 4 is just what we need in goal!! ben hamer will be a surpurb keeper for us!!

  • Well done!
  • Spoke with a city fan at work today, thought he was excellent for them last season and was hoping that they'd sign him permanently this summer.  Seemed to think wages would be an issue talking about £2.5 to  £3k which is top wack for city
  • That sounds very positive. Thanks for the effort of digging around.

No, he don't need that weight of expectation around his neck. So we'll settle for .......New keeper.

Elliott is more than good enough. Charlton fan or not, the fact that he is being linked with West Ham and Premiership Newcastle shows how ridiculous the weight of expectation is at Charlton. Will be very sad to see him go.

But is he really being linked to those clubs or just nonsense being made up on sites like wiki.

But is he good enough ? I like Elliott, he's one of us & I've seen him make many many brilliant saves only to let himself & the team down by letting some bobbling mis-hit from 40 yards trickle past him, it's a mystery to me.

Long range shots are his weakness. Can't really understand why that hasn't been ironed out, as his short range shot stopping and reflexes are top-notch. He's still young and has got the time to improve. I think we're all too quick to criticise. Compared to the likes of Andy Petterson, he is a world-beater.

Perhaps Robbie needs to go to Specsaver or wear contacts?
Joking apart, he's rarely at fault for goals conceded inside the box, so just wondering if he finds it difficult to track long range shots until too late?

Many years ago, I remember reading Robert Lee lost a contact lens on The Valley pitch.

Robbie does get a bit of a hammering from the Charlton fans, but anyone that saw him play away at Bournemouth that day saw that there is the makings of a good keeper there.
I think he will get better with age and the right coaching , maybe it is time for him to move on , nice guy always acknowledges the fans / throws his gloves into the crowd after the match / i wish him well.

I really wish he'd ditch that pink shirt though!

Maybe there is so much pressure on Chris Powell to succeed , he fills that he hasn't got the time for a keeper to develop and get better with age , because he needs a required standard ... now

Maybe Robbie has turned down a contract offer , who knows?

    New Deano?
    This.

Expect Elliot to be keeping the bench very warm this season.

So what your saying Oggy, is that Robbie is accidently (through an unfortunate dive) wearing Robert Lee's lost contact lens and that's having a dodgy effect on his long distance keeping.

Reading have a ridiculous amount of promising keepers: McCarthy, Anderson and Hamer were all on their books as 2/3/4 choice

Perhaps it was seen as prudent to cash in on the one with the balance of: highest stock/value, contract up soon, most agitated to leave for 1st team football
