Ray Parlour for me - great catch phrases such as -  "if you ask me" and "you know what I mean " and sits on the fence.

stan collymore or jason cundy. can't stand either.
  • Andy Gray complete clown, need to take a referee's course where he can learn the laws of the game.

Jim Beglin and Clive Tyldesley. So often together on itv. Beglin- Absolutely boring and Tyldesley full of cliches, earnest tones and loves his own voice.
    Radio- Alan Green;
    moralistic, plastic, boring.
  • Steve Claridge, can't stand the guy.

Collymore definitely. Gets people to call in to his daft show and then shouts them down if he doesn't agree with them and then just cuts them off if he gets angry enough. Makes the whole opinions part of teh show pretty pointless
  • Darren Gough talking about anything other than cricket, more intelligence in a used condom.

Green.  Dull, self-righteous and northern biased.

Steve Claridge and Robbie Savage are simply appalling. According to them you can have no opinion on football unless you played at the highest level.

I can't stand Hansen who can only speak in extremes 'fantastic' 'dreadful' etc and his moronic sidekick Shearer who has no knowledge of the players and his insight consists of telling you what you can see eg 'He plays the ball up to the centre forward who turns and scores.'

martin keown - has not got a clue.

met jason cundy on a train a few months back. was going to a party and we was all drinking on the train. he ended up coming with us!! proper nice fella.

  • For me it's Steve Claridge. Dull, dirty and just plain thick. He would be lost without that paper that he needs to keep looking down at. I'm sure it's a picture book anyway.

On the radio it's Keys and Gray. "so Andy you played for Everton?" "ahh yes" "and you played for Scotland" "ahh yes"

Thanks we heard this yesterday. and the day before that. and the day before that.

Mark Lawrenson - someone told him he was funny and he believed them. Just sits there acting like he can't be bothered most of the time, but he's more than happy to take our license fee money.

Have we named all of them yet?

The more difficult question than naming the worst, would be to name the best.  We've learned that Jason Cundy is a nice bloke to go partying with (in fairness, I bet a lot of them are) but can any of them actually do a good job?

Quite like Rob Palmer - but he doesn't get trusted with anything big other than Spanish games. Peter Brackley is very good, but again gets no respect.

As for the worst, Dean Windass takes some beating - he's useless, thick as two short planks and as insightful as a bag of cabbage.

Trevor Francis  - seems to think that saying "You can CLEARLY see..." makes it so, despite him apparently needing to go to Specsavers.

David Pleat - might have been good as a pundit 30 odd years ago but seems blissfully unaware that the game has in fact moved on. If I hear him bang on about "What I used to call an inside forward" once more...

Dean Windass isn't on Soccer Saturday for his insight though is he. He's there so that we can laugh at him.

Worst commentator for me is Alan Green. He doesnt actually tell you what is going on, its all in his own opinion. A bit like Souness just compares everything to 'back in his day' in his half time talks on Sky, really annoys me!

Kris kamara is a league above the rest !!
  • I think football has the worst commentators and pundits out of any sport. I can't think of anyone who is any good.

Tyldesley is the worst commentator, although I think someone has explained to him the meaning of the word 'irony' because he seems to have stopped using it.

Ever tried watching British ice hockey? The commentators on there manage to be even worse than the standard of play (a feat in itself)

I must be watching/listening a different game to all of you - can't say that any commentators or pundits are that bad & actually miss Gray & Keys tbh.

Only Collymore on talksport gets my goat - but that was mainly because he said Benty was no good & shouldn't be playing for England.

Another vote for Stan Collymore, with Robbie "but you've not played he game" Savage not far behind - both are quite offensive. Neither Alan Shearer or Mark Lawrenson ever come up with anything remotely insightful. Off the top of my head, Lee Dixon always seems quite articulate, and I also like Matt Le Tissier on Soccer Saturday.

As for commentatiors, can't stand Alan Green and I seem to be one of the few people who doesn't view John Motson as a national treasure. Too many stats, again very little actual insight.

Have always been a big fan of Jonathan Pearce, since his days on Capital Gold. Actually, I used to enjoy all the commentators on Capital Gold back in the day - maybe not the home of the most intellectual insight, but they really made the listener feel involved and they were unashamedly partisan in favour of the London clubs, whether it was Arsenal playing or Barnet, or Charlton for that matter.
