At least our reserves are. Last night I found myself sat next to someone taking a keen interest in the game. Just before half-time he received a call and murmured discreetly into his phone that the Charlton No.8 was "very useful, sitting just in front of the back four". He followed that up with, "No, never seen him before."

After a suitable pause for discretion I informed him who the mysterious No.8 was, and his only comment was, "Well he definitely didn't play for them (us) last year." Thinking he hadn't quite grasped it, I emphasised the surname, "You know, Xabi's brother?" but to no avail. A few minutes later, discussing a Carshalton player I thought looked handy, the enigmatic spy mentioned in passing who he was working for... none other than our friends from Croydon! Don't think they're too likely to land Mikel just yet.

    Yeah, should've had a bit more fun there Henry. Did something similar in my ball-boying days just to spite a lazy journo, and sure enough, the name I'd given him popped up in his report on Sunday despite the stats section recording the correct scorer.
