  • Fantastic news I reckon.. A decent piece of the puzzle...

More depth and a good older head around the club, used to recent promotions as well..

    COME ON ...

    Cant wait for Saturday!!

Just looked up the Handbook for 2005.  This lists Bent as our 7th most expensive signing at £2,500,000.  This amount is asterisked with a note saying that it could rise to £3,000,000.  Presumably that extra £1/2m would be for appearances/goals/internationals.  Guess the extra £2m+ that is now stated is from sell-on clauses.
  • Welcome back, Jase.
  • good news ... very happy about this
  • Great news, he'll add something a bit different to the pot with his experience, propensity for hard work and no little talent.
  • Yes, this looks to be good news, top scorer for three seasons in a row in the Prem, even given the ravages of time and so forth he will be a valuable player for us at this level, I reckon we have done right by Jase, and I hope he now wants to do right by us, not just because he has a gig with us, but he has a chance to enjoy life as a footballer after upheavals in his life. Good luck jason...to paraphrase Michael Slater 'for a start he's not Pawel Abbott'.

    .

  • Well done club, good to see him back. Good section of strikers now if you ask me.
  • got my facts from wiki!
    And there's your weakness..........;-)
They did match my memory from the time but obviously sell on fees etc change the final cost.
  • Good signing.

Powell has had a good opportunity to see whether or not he can still do a job and has evidently decided he can.

    I'm happy with that.

  • I'm happy with that. Was playing in the Prem and CCC last year so can definatley do a job for us.
  • Great news. This man is a Charlton hero and my favourite player of this recent era.

At 6ft 7" (in high heels) he is also ideal.

Welcome home to the prodigal son.

  • Great news really pleased! Got a great picture of Jason and Greenie junior framed at home from the prem years! Lovely bloke as well!

Chris Powell certainly gives the impression that he is after 'good blokes' almost as much as good players.
The polar opposite of Pardew's philosophy,
  • Welcome back! I was waiting for this to happen, very pleased :)

    Back to the Curbs' philosophy...thankfully.
  • Blimey this thread is entirely positive, what's going on?!

Indeed. Let's hope he learnt from the master, and is somewhere near as successful.
What a couple of years this could be!

  • He wouldn't have been top of my list, but if there's enough money in the pot to pay his wages then I don't really see how we can lose.

    Welcome back Jason.

  • That's a cracking signing chaps.

  • I'll get me coat.
    You off out?
  • Just in respect of the record fee, as far as I am concerned it is still indisputable that Jason Euell is our record signing. We committed to pay £4.75m for him at the time as we obviously valued him at that and thought he would be worth it. If he had been a flop (which at the start it looked like he would be), we would have paid all that money for him. We only paid £2.5m for Darren Bent when we signed him. Sell-on money shouldn't be included, as we didn't pay that amount for him, we just took that off the amount we received when we sold him (and presumably we factored it in when we were negotiating a price with Spurs). If Bent had been a flop we would have wasted only £2.5m.

Irrespective, glad to have Jase back, but not sure he is a striker anymore, he was much more effective in central midfield for us and I believe that's where he's played mostly in recent years for Saints, Blackpool etc.
  • great to have him back aboard, jason, jason euell

  • Reckon Jase can also play the hold up role/linkman that Hayes plays or even as a target man;.
    - or the deep striker in the hole role, should we play 4-5-1.
  • still need a pacy striker though imo although pleased Jason has signed
  • Love the man. Can someone remind me of the Euell 'Gold' song in full...?
  • be interesting to see how he does in league 1
  • Like this a lot.
