What does Gomez have to do to get a game?
Leave Liverpool about 3 or 4 seasons ago!
I agree that he should have been given a chance this season before now but I've also been through his motivations on the Gomez thread. He is happy doing what he's doing. His family are settled. He's won countless medals. He's earning a very good living. He's loved by the Liverpool fans for being Mr Reliable when asked to step in. He's also been looked after really well by Liverpool so far as new contracts are concerned despite his history of injury. Yes he is not getting the game time that we think he should have but there is absolutely no guarantee whatsoever that he would be a fixture in any other top PL side or that he would be in the England team.

We can argue 'til the cows come home that he should show more ambition but, until we tread in his shoes, we cannot possibly understand what makes him happy although reading some extensive interviews with him it is clear that he isn't going to be banging on the door to leave. That day will come eventually and that might be in January if Liverpool sign Guehi but it isn't him that has been the driver to do so to date.
The question though was what does he need to do to get a game, and the reality is if he went to someone like Villa, Newcastle, Spurs, even *spit* the freaks down the road, he would have played a lot more, because he would have been playing when fit. His issue at Liverpool is even when he's fit he's been 3rd choice at the very best, but usually lower than that, for the vast majority of his time there.

Joe seems to be happy being the outfield equivalent of a backup keeper, which feels a waste of his best years.
  • This Man City 3rd kit is one of the worst kits i've ever seen.

No one can categorically state that he would have been fit because the circumstances of any injury sustained are different. Would the fans of those clubs have been as understanding of his injuries when he would have been a vital cog there? Would those clubs have supported him in the way Liverpool have? How many medals would he have won at Villa, Newcastle and Spurs compared to the nine he has including the biggest of all in the Premier League and the Champions League? But the biggest question of all for Gomez is this - would he and his family have been as happy? That is the one that has been his reason for staying.

We live in a world where every fan complains of the lack of loyalty shown by players. We have one here that has given that loyalty to one club for over a decade and yet we criticise him for doing so. That stay will come to an end, probably sooner rather than later, especially if Liverpool sign Guehi, but he will receive the same reception by the Club and fans alike as Milner does. He has nothing to feel disappointed about because no one can say that he would have done better moving before now for all the reasons I've suggested.

Table looks really topsy turvy at the moment doesnt it

You've currently got Bournemouth, Sunderland and Man Utd well out of place occupying the top 6

Nice to see the three promoted clubs being able to put up a proper fight this season as well

Really refreshing that this season instead of the newly promoted teams being hammered and the newly relegated teams dominating the Championship, we have the newly promoted teams looking very competitive and the relegated teams looking quite ordinary

Wolves, Forest and West Ham have won two games between them from 27 matches and one of those was when West Ham beat Forest.

Wolves lack of investment has been their downfall - their net spend over the course of the last seven seasons has been a profit of £34m and almost £100m in the last two years. West Ham had delusions of grandeur when they sacked Moyes (twice) and the Forest owner expects instant gratification and things to be done his way or not at all. Of the three, Dyche might make Forest difficult to beat but it's difficult to see how the other two are going to avoid relegation at present.

    I’m thinking exactly the same.
West Ham look L1 level & Wolves also look like they’re going down.

If Forest improve it leaves Burnley as most in danger.

Fulham, Leeds or Everton could struggle but they look ok atm.

  • Surprised Ashley Young isn't spending the whole of the half time analysis moaning about Tottenham over celebrating.

I'm surprised Moyes allowed that, not very old school is it.

I'd get used to it if I were you.
Cant see anyone stopping them and wouldn't put it past them to do the CL double too.

Was watching the West Ham penalty turned down by VAR in the first half.
What a joke this system is. It wasn't a penalty as the Newcastle defender just touched the ball with his studs before Bowen fell over. Can understand the ref initially missing it so no complaints there.
What really takes the piss is the VAR ref had to watch it over 10 times before telling the ref to come over and have a look. You probably could tell with the first replay that he touched it. Definitely by the second one. Then, unbelievably, the ref has to watch it 10 times before making his decision!
Wtf! Why didn't the var ref watch it once or twice and then say 'you need to make a decision on this?'

    Elite Football on its arse!!

cant actually remember a worse performance from a Spurs side than that under any manager.

Admittedly i didn't see it but it surely wasn't as bad as that Newcastle defeat when you were 5-0 down after about 20 minutes?

That cup game at Tamworth when you needed extra time to score against them was pretty dire too.

Freddie Potts, brother of Charlton legend Dan, is getting heaps of praise from West Ham fans. I've seen comparisons to Mark Noble and him described as the best midfielder in their squad.

For clarification, At home I'm talking about (but fair point, them two performances were well up there!)

I've tried to write something here about 3-4 times and deleted it because it turns in a complete rant, I dont even know where to start.

Plus points: Kudus, Sarr, Vicario, Set Pieces

Negative points:  Lack of attacking moments, no patterns of play, no balance in midfield (Sarr & Bergvall give us something different yet get sacrificed for two 6s at home), no natural width on the left with Udogie out of the side or no decent PL standard left wing option (say Hi Odobert and Tel), no creativity (no Maddison/Kulusevski and Xavi Simmons looks like a poor mans Steven Bergwyn and way out of his depth!), no fit and decent centre forward (Solanke injured, Richarlison reverting to Prime Richarlison, Kolo Muani looks shocked to be at Spurs)...

I've not got an issue with how he sets us up going away, it works and it has been working reasonably well but we need to see a massive improvement at home.

Barry up top for Everton looks like a shocking footballer.
  • Unbelievable solo goal from Ndiaye.
  • In the modern day world of incredibly overpriced players, Sunderland getting Xhaka for only 13m has to be one of the signings of the season so far.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but have the rules for what constitutes a handball changed drastically from last season?
It seems like hardly any are given now when they were being given all over the place last year. Am I misremembering?

Sunderland looked utterly shit for the first half an hour, but have been all over Everton since. They now look a decent side. Shame about the finishing though.
