The privilege of peace and quiet

Along with scheduled rest.

An important luxury that is a requirement for a healthy lifestyle. Perhaps it goes unnoticed and we need it a lot more than expected.

Working 6 days a week and picking up mild injuries makes me fantasise about an early retirement or the considerable possibility of eventually working from home.

My number 1 daytime dream is living on a 20th floor large penthouse apartment.

A 64" TV with a PS5 Pro console and a £1,000 worth of free just eat vouchers.

The following day consists of walking on a clear empty beach. Take a long walk in mild 24°C heat Perhaps carry a set of binoculars, eat fish & Chips, drink a can of coke and have an Ice cream. Looking at the sky and almost doing absolutely nothing.

Does anyone else have a strong vaguely similar desire?

A 64 inch tv, why do you dream of portable tv's? You need, (https://www.richersounds.com/samsung-qe98qn990c/), a 98 incher and a snip at £35k.

Its strange as you get older your dream lifestyles change, mine now is a house with separate music/cinema room, in a field with no neighbours. It also has to have shops, pubs, takeaways, restaurants of various kinds, good road and public transport links, a university hospital and a doctors surgery with doctors in it.
  • The greatest joy in life is to be surrounded by nature.
to not be surrounded by people.

As for the first post, health is wealth.
  • Been in France the last few day's, doing a bit of work on the house and had intended to be a little bit cut off with some peace and quiet. No chance - been more stressed here than I usually am in the UK ffs lol

quite a lot to fit into your house mate
  • Being by the sea in an uncrowded location on a warm sunny day.
  • Live out in the sticks, my dream is moving to the Pembrokeshire coast. From Broad Haven up to Newgale beach along that stretch it's stunning and also very reasonable.

Might get up in a minute, make a cup of tea and watch the cricket.
  • Having a beautiful apartment in the middle of a bustling city used to really appeal to me, but now I want nothing more than to move to Texas, own a huge house with a pool, BBQ and meat smoker, and have a Corvette and a F-250 sat on the drive. Bliss.

That's a good one. I may add to that.

Live by a lake with a clear sky and hear the birds singing in the morning.

Don't have to bother with winter heat bills and summer air con.

Read a book on the patio.

The acoustic guitar and fishing rod want to be picked up and you don't even know what the time is!
  • Roast lunch on a Sunday, with my family.
Couple bottles of a good red. Absolute heaven!!

Restaurant in Sorrento, looking towards Naples wife and myself.
  • Its one of the big reasons why I love heading out with the Camera... Its very calming and relaxing hobby,  I feel it really helps me destress - I'm also lucking working from home, as from 8:30-3:30, I've got the house to myself, I imagine some enjoy having music on in the background etc. but I just love the absolute silence, especially when I don't have any Meetings in the Calendar

It’s quite rural where I live.  Really peaceful most of the time.  Night time is owls and the faint murmur of the20 ( if the wind is blowing on the wrong direction)

we live a quiet life most of the time and I love it.  Keep ourselves to ourselves, neighbours look after each other etc

a year ago I got new next door neighbours - the house previously tenanted by Alfie May.  The new residents are…..slightly different
There’s a special needs daughter and her Mum.  Plus regular visits from carers.  Quite why they need such a big house is beyond me.  The daughter often screams and shouts in the road out the front and blocks the cars of her carers because she doesn’t want them to leave.  Loud music at random times.  The mom had some friends over and had a hot tub party starting at 3am last Sunday morning.  I politely knocked and asked them to consider the neighbours but they carried on until 8-15 in the morning.

its when stuff like that happens they you appreciate the peace and quiet and you also realise there are some unbelievably antisocial people out there.

As soon as I can I’m retiring and pissing off to live in the middle of nowhere.  It’s literally getting to the point I severely dislike being around people.
A hot tub party STARTING at 3am.  I think  they'd be getting more than just a polite knock.

All possible in my blue cheese dreams. ;)
  • My aim is to move to north Devon, a small village location, ideally with a cafe, shop, on a bus route, plenty of walks fom the front door, beaches in reasonable walking distance and two pubs in walking distance. I have a mate who moved to a one pub place, which has since become a no pub place through lack of patronage, including his, so no sympathy.
Happily we've identified two such places and are going down this weekend to look at suitable looking houses. Fingers crossed!
For us it's about access to the outdoors, scenery, community and things to do, including sea fishing and making my own cider. We dont intend to sit on our arses and watch Countdown.

  • It is interesting what we all call "peace & quiet". For me I live at the end of a cul de sac so no passing traffic but there is a footpath that leads to the local secondary school up the hill. I hear the kids morning and afternoon to and from school and general children noise in the breaks, however I do not find this as a disturbance and after all the school was there before I moved in.

My wife was left a 30 acre farm in Kerry. About a mile from the nearest neighbour with a swamp field next to the Laune behind a dyke. Access is limited to when the river is at low tide. We’ve taken a grant to reforest it with native trees -which are now beginning to be tall enough to give a canopy.
Wild life is returning and it’s very peaceful. The house is 100years old and was built by her uncle or great uncle. It’s very basic but lovely. Just 4 rooms.
We go there as often as we can. If the lottery or an inheritance happens we’d be there the next day.
Watch the great house revival on iPlayer, it’s amazing what can be done to some of these old houses in Ireland.

    Great program.
Living in a house that can be traced right back to when records began built from the ruins of a castle (thanks Mr Cromwell) its a real inspiration to what can be done to bring these beautiful houses back to life.

I love the peace and quiet here but this last week, where we’ve had the heatwave, every available beach/coast space was overrun.
Grateful for my she shed and deck chair 😎💚

Have a think about the Community bit. If they decide you’re an ‘incomer’ life can be awkward.
