Bags in Stadiums

I was informed on the way in to Colchester Community Stadium today that there are going to be strict rules surrounding bags at games this season and that anything bigger than A4 will no longer be permitted.

Does anybody have any more information on this?

I'm assuming that we just get turned away and they won't be holding the bags for us, so this seems like a nightmare for away games as, if we have accommodation booked for the weekend, it generally isn't possible to check in before a 15:00 kick-off (and it definitely won't be for 12:30 kick-offs), which will presumably mean either travelling very light, finding a storage locker nearby, or paying for an early check-in (or the Friday night on top in some cases).

It's harder for me as I work remotely on Saturdays and have to bring my laptop with me, so I have to have a bag that's bigger than A4 at practically every game.

I can't see anything from Charlton about a new bag policy, but I can see that it isn't permitted at Ashton Gate. In fact, you can't even bring a laptop in without approval from the club.

  • So will women be allowed in with hand bags?

Can someone tell me what A4 is in inches please.
  •  to you I am asking a question

Have a crack and see what it gets you. I had already tried this before. Unless you put a specific club, you get information on Premier League clubs.

Some examples of why this doesn't work as your sarcastic response suggests:

Charlton - An AI generated answer saying that nothing bigger than an A4 bag is allowed inside The Valley, but there's no source from Charlton confirming any of this. The AI also says that we play at Wembley as well as The Valley.

A4 Championship - An AI statement that anything bigger than A4 is not permitted, but top results to actual sources are Wembley, Chelsea and Manchester City.
  • 210 x 297 mm
Just over 8 and a quarter by just under 12 inches....
  • A4 size was the rule for the playoff final at Wembley and it was well advertised

    Everyone seemed to cope
  • The small ladies handbag and A4 size bag was specified for our playoff final at Wembley.

I'll guess it'll be gradually imposed on us, but would be good to hear the Club take on this.

That’s about normal size isn’t it?
It depends on how exciting the game is...
  • Get a cycling musette.

Yep, was staying over so a change of undies, socks and a toothbrush just about made it.

I went to the O2 in Islington a couple of weeks back and had a rucksack with just my laptop and the charger in it. I wasnt aware they had the same policy as Wembley, but despite me showing how little was in the bag they wouldn't let it in. Had to check it in at a nearby Premier Inn with the stasher app. Cost me £7 but was a painless process and I picked it up post gig. Maybe get the app ahead of next season just in case.

Edit. I think you can check bags in for 24hrs, but i could be wrong. I just needed to drop at 8ish and picked up about 1030hrs

I was referring to the imperial dimensions of a sheet of paper.
  • Think they have this rule over Millwall and have some sort of bag drop off kiosk/cabin

    Yoda turnout.
  • I know that, for example, there is a bag depository at the King Power in Leicester. A few years ago I was stopped with a small backpack and told to drop it there.

Yep, us and all the spurs fans managed just fine.

Pretty sure there are bag drop lockers at London bridge. When my son comes to Charlton we have a bag full of snacks and have never had a problem, would be a nightmare if loads of people turned up with suitcases though.

  • It has been standard policy at Spurs since the new stadium opened.

Nothing bigger than A4 unless its a Spurs superstore clear carrier bag (surprise surprise!)

There are lockers but the queue for them is best avoided!
  • This will mess me up for Watford. Staying in London with wife and child for a couple of nights and taking train home after game. Hmmmmmmm

You should be fine for The Valley, there's nothing in our T&C's about bags

  • My mate is a West Ham supporter and he is going to Sunderland away for the first game, Sunderland have a policy of no vapes or coins allowed in the Stadium...
