  • Can’t wait for this, I’ll be watching on my iPad from the Maldives. Feeling fairly confident with a 2-1 win.

    Show off
  • Realistically Watford are a midtable team. They’re missing their best player they have a very young inexperienced squad and this is our first championship home game in 5 years with a huge crowd. If this is a game where people don’t think we will win then realistically who do they expect us to beat this season.
  • 2-0 Addicks!

  • 1-1.

We don’t really know how good Watford will be, or how good we will be. But I’m sure whatever happens people will read way too much into it. If we lose we’re getting relegated, if we win don’t book any holidays in May
  • As someone unlucky enough to have lived in Watford the last 15 years I was in the pub last week when Watford played Deportivo and asked a bunch of Horns fans how they thought they’d fare against a newly promoted Addicks team - literally no one I asked thought they’d smash us and it was largely split as to whether they’d even beat us

The general consensus seemed to be of a team in decline, lacking team spirit and unity and Watford fans simply have no idea what to expect from their team this year

I think we will do ‘em 2-0
  • Not sure about this Watford side. Harshly sacked Cleverly and I usually have a rough idea on managers/players but havent got a clue who the Watford manager is!

So they could be a bit out of sorts also with new ideas/players and a good time to play them, yes we have new players also but NJ has already implemented his style so the players will know what they have to do.

Either way, I am excited that the season is starting!

Going to go for a Charlton win, 1-0 (L.Jones)

  • Really looking forward to Saturday. Weather looks good, valley will be rocking. What could possibly go wrong. Great to be back in the championship. So pleased we are not in League 1 another year. UTA.
  • 2-2 with us going behind then ahead then chucking away two points in the last ten minutes. Again.
  • I was going for 0-1 depressing 1st half, half time CL review full of woe. Equaliser in 46th. 1-1 at 90, ref adds 9 minutes injury time .. 99th minute and 10seconds  2-1 Lloyd Jones header

HMS Piss The League gets the big guns out!

Just one result can I see Saturday and that's a win, maybe 1-0 but could be 3-0...,but we will start with 3 points...👌
  • Really excited for this first game
  • Myself and my son down for this one. An early start to get there for 12:30. Will be leaving about 07:00. 2-1 to Charlton and a happy drive home.
  • Can’t argue against that team, FA, and I like the “Christmas tree with a solid base” 3-4-1-2 layout.

  • OK I maybe a bit of a romantic but Gillesphey starts for me. His form in the last part of the season merits that.

His shirt to wear until such times as his form means its time for a change.
No room for sentiment unfortunately, if we have better available then they start ahead of him - harsh but reality

I think there will be some differences from the suggested team/s and fitness levels, which we won't be aware of, will be a factor. It is clear from last season that Jones likes to keep his cards close to his chest and I assume most of the structure work is done in training. He has enough players in the squad to do this.

Anyway, looking forward to this one and will be there with my brother and son. Not expecting a classic but can see us nicking a tight game.
  • Five of us at this one, looking forward to it more the closer it gets. And afterwards there will be beer and a post mortem while the rest of the league tries to knock us off the top of the table
  • For me Watford are an unknown quantity, and I know jack about the Championship at the moment beyond it being way harder than league one.
In league one each team has a couple of players that can hurt you, I suspect in the Championship each team has four or five players that can hurt you.
I can’t see as how Nathan Jones can yet get a handle on Watford in order to set up against them, as the season progresses sussing out the opposition will be easier.
I know it is a good stance to say ‘let the opposition worry about us’, but next season we would benefit from an almost Bielsa-like knowledge of the other teams.
    Saturday almost anything can happen.

I suspect Nathan and half our team, basically the ones with a previous association with Luton, will be more than familiar with Watford and will have ‘a handle’ on them already

With so many Luton players in our squad, it’s even more of a derby.
  • Great review but 12:30 K.O.
Cheers I thought I'd updated that, when I spotted it myself

I’m a bit worried we haven’t strengthened in the right places over the summer. We’re in the Championship now yet we’ve got the same Match Previewers and it’s a gamble as to whether they can step up. When’s the last time any of them were previewing at the Championship level?
TEN YEARS I've been bloomin' well doing these Preview for now... Where's my testimonial? - Lesser people associated with Charlton have been more awarded than me
we tried to get the previewer from the Celtic forum for your testimonial but Old Bill wouldn’t allow it, quoting some piffle about crowd safety.

Welcome to the M1 Derby 🤦🏻‍♂️
  • I have absolute no idea what the result will be, so many unknowns. We could get thrashed, we could thrash them but I reckon NJ will be aiming for a clean sheet first, anything else a bonus.
