    HT 0-0

Not too bad a half, certainly didn't look out of our depth.

    Standouts from that half:

    Ramsey - cool as fuck
    Jones - don't panic!
Edwards - got the measure of Baah
King Carey - he's been everywhere, impressed with his workrate

Good first half from us. Just missing a goal, but we’ve had chances. If this was League One we’d probably be two or three nil up by now. Bright spots for me - Coventry, Jones, Ramsay, Edwards all started where they left off last season, and Apter has looked a spark of quality when we can get him on the ball. Need to tidy up one or two moments in midfield (particularly Doc) and get Kelman involved a bit more. Game’s there to be won, though.

I think we're looking decent. Just need to stay switched on and not give away anything silly. Bell looking very composed on the ball, we've missed that for a few years.

Sonny Carey my pick of the bunch for the new boys, looks like a handful. Once again we look like a complete pain in the arse to play against. Love it

Skysports+ has spent more time focusing on the Watford manager sitting on his little box than the game.
He's been taking up some great positions to be fair.

Dont see Ramsay or Edwards making that task easy for him

Impressed with Bell & Carey. Kelman didn’t get into the game much. Think Olaofe for TC will be very handy after 60. So much energy

Strong first half, been the better team. Carey everywhere, Edwards solid, Ramsey oozing class. TC involved but naive. More required from kelman. Docherty involved but more quality on ball required.

Thought as a first half of a first game of the season it's been pretty good.

Obviously we have no idea where Watford will rank in terms of quality of opponents yet. They could well end up 24th for all we know.

Had dodgy signal all half (watch it improve for 15 mins during half time) but sounds like we’re doing ok, not really being challenged too much or looking out of our depth

Half time: On another day we’d be 2 or 3 up. Their keeper has kept them in the match. A good first half performance. Kiminski has had nothing to do. Can’t criticise any of the performances although Doc and TC look a little off the pace at time. We’ve been needing someone like Apter for years. He’s put some decent crosses into the box. Think Leaburn might benefit from his deliveries. All to play for in the second half COME ON YOU REDS

Baah looks pretty dangerous to me. Got a slight edge on speed and strength to edwards.

You can see the step up in quality. But we’re giving a good account of ourselves.

Boys done good.  Stand outs Jones, Apter, Carey and Ramsay.  All our lads look up for the C’ship.  Perhaps Doc and TC need to offer more.  Need to work to get Kelman into the game.  Good first half from us imo.  COYR

In another league lower we would be ahead but in this league its shown there's not much space and we have to grind out possession and chances. Kelman needs help, he had two men marking him and TC is not offering as much as i would hope for.
Doc is also a bit flat footed.
Early days but Carey looks excellent and Apter too.

Jones outstanding. Docherty looks like he won a competition to play

Agreed he looks dangerous, but wouldn't say he's had the better of Edwards by any means.

Doc looks like the weak link really. But the team otherwise seemed composed and held their own.
  • Not going to complain about that at all. Carey and Apter the pick of the new boys, jones and Ramsay look very strong.

What the fuck are they feeding those Watford players though??

Our back line is looking good.
Kelman anonymous at the moment, Doch a little wasteful and giving the ball away cheaply.
    team looks decent overall.
Apter has a really good delivery on him..
    looks more accomplished than small

Need more of a presence up top. I'd bring on Tanto or Miles, TC been poor.

Very good half that. Honestly that's far better than we looked on the ball for a lot of last season and that's mostly with the same players. Play like this all season and at the very least we'll be far more enjoyable to watch than we were in L1. The most encouraging thing is Lloyd Jones is still a monster, Ramsay is still effortlessly bouncing attackers off him and TC is still fast and strong enough to give defenders real problems. Carey has worked hard and Bell has looked absolutely superb, like having a second Ramsay on the other side and really justifying Gillesphey dropping to the bench. Apter, Doc, Edwards and Coventry have done their jobs so far, it's just Kelman who is looking a little bit like he doesn't know where to be. Needs to impose himself more and move into area where he can receive the ball. He's very central and playing with his back to goal and the Watford centre backs are eating him up at the moment. He doesn't have that instinctive early movement that Godden has, that's looking like the thing he needs to work on right now

I know we love Doc in here but uncomfortable conversations might need to be had…..
Or, and this may sound crazy, we give players more than the first half of the first game of the season before we start writing them off?
    Howdy stranger!

You must be new in town ...

I like the new boys - Kelman had a couple of nice touches , but feeding off scraps .  Carey very energetic and Apter and Bell have quality.  TC needs is a threat but his end product is not there .

Not a bad 1st half display. We're reliable at blocking shots and halting dangerous crosses.

I have no idea what will happen in the 2nd half. I just don't have a good feeling about it.

    Hope I'm wrong

Isn't too different a match from the Wigan game at the start of last season, albeit we were away from home, and we never really clicked on the road like we did at the Valley.

Definitely feels like a 1-0 winner type match, although who its coming from... I've no idea.

Ramsay, Jones, Edwards and Carey the standouts so far - TC hasn't hid by any stretch, but its been a difficult half dealing with scraps, and the physicality of their defence.
  • Well on that performance I think we can safely say we are going to give it a good go this season and not be embarrassed.

With a bit of luck we could be 2 up.

Think the only thing currently we need to work on is attacking positioning for all these low crosses/cut-backs. Making sure Kelman is aiming for a similar position and the wingers/WBs know where to aim for.
