Clive's 50yr anniversary of not missing a home match since 16th August 1975, V Notts County....is mind boggling...I don't know you Clive but this is incredible loyalty, dedication and bonkers, you must have had missed some special occasions like weddings, holidays, birthdays to achieve this? please share more about this amazing achievement
& Is there another Addick who can match Clives unbroken run home, away or both, apart from Seb's?
Surely Clive deserves to come onto the pitch for the Leicester match to take a bow in front of the covered end?
In fact i gave up a short break in Malta, which i had already paid for, last season so not to miss the home game against Rotherham.
Anybody who knows me by now, knows that my main priority in life is attending Charlton games home & away & knows i will decline invitations which clash with Charlton games.

In my opinion it is more important to support the team in Home games, that's where the club gets most of it's income from.
Last night's game cost me a total of £10.00 to attend, over 65 price plus free travel on my 60+ Oyster card.
Since i started work aged 16 i've had a season ticket so that i never have to miss a home game, although obviously have had to pay for cup games.
For about the the last 40 years i've attended the vast majority of away games, but i would never prioritise an away trip instead of attending a home game.
In fact Saturday [16/8/25] will be the 50th anniversary since i last missed a home game 16th August 1975, V Notts County.

Wow @clive, that is an astonishing record. Bravo! Can I ask, do you have a cut-off for level of competition or does that include absolutely everything?
All 1st team matches including Friendlies/Testimonials & Members Cup & its various guises.

I have always lived in quite easy reach of 'The Valley' so have no excuse not to attend home games although it was a bit more of a challenge to attend matches at Selhurst & Upton Park.
Clive - its an incredible achievement 50yrs home run, do you know of any other ADDICKS who have matched this? regardless of living close by to the Valley, you must have had to duck out of a few social & family occassions & your health clearly hasn't stopped you?
I think you should take a bow before the covered end before Leicester match !

I don't know of anybody with a similar record but wouldn't be surprised if their is somebody who can match it.

CLIVE - I think your in the Golden ADDICKED HOME club on your own surely?

It's a great record Clive, very impressive, well done.

My own home run is approaching 44 years so I am a bit behind you (my current run - I had a 2 year run before my current run - started at the age of 13 so I'm hoping to keep it going for a while yet).

Saw mention of someone who had 1 missed game in 40-odd years but I imagine you have the longest run, brilliant job.
    50yrs Clive
    44yrs Charscot
we have some very loyal, dedicated super Addicted ADDICKS
I know we had super fans like Seb Lewis and of course Rick Everitt, but you two deserve a medal !
  • I read that with a rather painful sense of Groundhog Day. Unless anyone is interested I wont bother with the back-story of how this research was commissioned by the Guardian. Suffice to say that at the time, a lot of people were very impressed with it. But while it accurately depicted the feelings of the most committed fans at the time (as I'm sure the IPSOS one does, 32 years later) we totally failed to predict that these disillusioned fans would be replaced by more affluent fans who actually welcomed the all-seater environments that the clubs (not Charlton, TBF) made the fans pay for. Today I think many clubs have the same mindset, especially when they see how Championship attendances have increased since 2018.

Congratulations "Super" Clive, what an incredible achievement !
STIG this really should have its own thread, as Clive's unbroken home run since 1976 deserves a Charlton Life massive high five.
The Club should invite Clive onto the pitch V Leicester to take a bow, this home run includes also cup and friendlies.
1976, that long hot summer seems a very very long time ago !

    Call yourself a fan 😂

50 years since you last missed a home game is insane.
he's a true supporter and if anyone has a right to complain about things when they aren't going well, its the likes of him -  anybody who says that somebody who only goes now and then isn't any less of a supporter is wrong

Hang on, today is 50 years since Clive missed a home game. Lost 2-1, in the words of Max Boyce, I was there.

Clive’s 50th anniversary of not missing a home game, will be on 26th August. Early congratulations.
  • 16th according to Clive's post above.

Oddly, the 1975 Notts County match was also the last competitive home match I missed for 22 years, until I missed one game in 1997 and another in 2004. I then saw them all until 2018 (FL Trophy from 2016 excepted). Boycotted a lot that season.

As a former season ticket holder who lives on the Kent coast and doesn't get to many games these days, I don't think dropping prices would make any difference to me. The ticket isn't the issue, it's the cost of the whole day out. If I lived a walk or a bus ride from the ground, maybe. But I don't, and the cost of public transport to the match from where I live is the factor that means I can't afford to go that often. Unless someone has some sway on the railways, I don't see that changing, unfortunately.
If only someone had thought of running a cheap coach service to sell extra match tickets.
Would there not be problems with brining in more coaches and that is Greenwich`s  plans for healthier/safer streets. I do not see them being happy at say 20 to 30 coaches packing up in Charlton. It would have to be that number to bring in 1200 to 1800 fans. Any thing less would seem of very little impact on increasing support for Charlton games.
Plenty of space on Anchor & Hope Lane for coaches to park up during the match, there'll be other spots like the Thames Barrier car park too. If a school playground's being opened as a little-used car park, turn it over for coaches instead. Ultimately the council (and TfL, who'd no doubt have a say) will have to engage with this as it'd support their rather distant dream of reducing car use in the borough.
Your comment about a school is a brilliant idea for a local school to increase their funding last week I paid £28 for a space on someone’s drive a 10 minute walk from the valley pre booked n just park they had 3 cars booked for the match that’s £74 for the afternoon not bad eh ? If a local school opens their facilities they could have a very good income
  • What about Covid matches ? Did they let fans in for all of them , sell my memory

I saw quite a few of the Covid matches from the press gantry, but generally no.

That's insane. Does it include the two bob Cup games?
