Did a good job just too boring for most people can’t think of a more replicable case of Purrington and then ended up with Sessengon, Penney, Castillo, Thomas, Souare
Sessegnon was ok and you've conveniently missed out Maatsen there too

Was really hoping we’d work something out to keep him. Not perfect but pretty decent on the right.
Still 2 weeks to bring him back

Would rather have him here for the rest of the season/permanently whilst also having Clarke. Bree did a decent job at LWB but he’s not a left sided player. Desperately need a left wing back and another right wing back now.
Did a decent job at LWB?! In what capacity?

Agree - he was shocking there yesterday

Your first and third setnences I couldn't agree with more. The middle one I couldn't disagree with more!
This. Bree was like a fish out of water at left wing back. If he had come back in the 2nd half, even though they only had 9 players I think there was a good chance he would have got caught in position again and committed another silly foul and got sent off.  Not his fault - and credit to him for agreeing to do it - but he should never have been asked to play in that position.

Long term, I've a strange feeling we may see him back in a Charlton shirt.
  • Did quite well and at least not as injury prone as most of our squad. Id take him back. Always seems calm on the ball although yesterday when he got booked he was a bit too calm before the foul where he got a yellow.
What was very noticeable yesterday is how the Sheff Utd players were much quicker in thought and also running than our players. It was a bit like watching a greyhound running against a Chihuahua.

On the whole this was good business for us and I'd have him back any time in the future.  thankyou JB and I wish him well

Bree did OK for us, but obviously, if the 'lending club' sees that their man has done well on loan and improved his game, they'll want him back

Mate he was far from decent at LWB, even when he managed to control the ball, he flatly refused to run forward with it, then passed back or sideways. He was completely ineffective, our play just stopped when the ball got to him. I would never want to see him play on the left if he was ever to return.

Been at Southampton almost 3 years before our loan, I doubt they have changed their view of him after 3 months with us, I think they will be looking at moving him on soon before his contract is up in the summer

The bloke played every game and didn’t let us down yes he didn’t maintain his early form but he was there when we needed him. We are bang in trouble if we don’t get at least 2 defenders that are fit and ready to play preferably this week

We didn’t so much as improve him, more realistically we just played him in games. If they didn’t have a place for him before I doubt they really have a place for him now. If I had to guess it is probably all down to money. The clock is ticking on the window, I suspect deals will get done and Southampton may need to offload players just a bit more than we need to bring them in.

Not on the bench tonight so misses the opportunity to play his last game for us v Sheff Utd and his next game for Southampton v Sheff Utd.

I still suspect we'll get him back, maybe even in this window.

Isn’t his contract up with them at the end of the season?, saints are obviously going to try and get some money for him this window you would have thought.

Yeah I think they won’t use him as if they do then he can only play for us and them this season. They will sell to the highest bidder which will hopefully be us

Realistically Bree has all the power in this scenario so the question is how much does he want to play for NJ and are the club prepared to stump up for him?

Are you that keen to have him back? Not saying I wouldn’t but I think there would be mixed views on a return.

Of course. He’s an experienced championship player which is exactly what we need more of. When he was fully fit his set piece delivery was responsible for about half of our goals as well

We really aren’t in the position to turn down a player that has 150+ games at this level, some appearances in the PL in recent years. Has been playing every week and overall done pretty well this season. I’d be shocked if we can find a better wing back than him this month, be pretty surprised if we can find a better player than him that wants to sign for us this month. We’d be mental to not try and bring him back imo

He also clearly played on through injury, when his contract with us was about to end and it could easily have affected his career if the injury got worse. Exactly the kind of character we should want in our squad
All good points, can’t argue with that.👍

I can’t believe people are even suggesting that we shouldn’t try to get him back we are hardly in the position to not sign players with a lot of championship experience. I think we have seen already this window we are struggling to sign proven players

As thing stands, he wants to come. Like I said before, he is best mates with Lloyd and loves playing for Jones. It is a positive for us he is not in the squad as many had expected him to play upon going back. However, he would have only got back on Monday so the manager might want to see him in training/wanted a bit more time to learn his style of play. Either way, I suspect we will see Bree in a Charlton shirt again.

I’d take him back no questions asked. Despite what some people believe at this point in time we cannot and will not get anyone better than James Bree with the experience he has and the ability to cover multiple positions.
