Hi one and all, and welcome to what will be our first home 3pm kick-off of the 2025/26 campaign, and we will be looking to record back-to-back league wins, following last weekend's dramatic victory over last season's play-off finalists Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

So we are back on the home Valley turf for today's match against a Blackburn Rovers side that currently sit six places and two points behind us in 18th spot, after two wins and three defeats in their first five matches, so yes they have a game in hand on us following their abandoned match with Ipswich last Saturday, whilst Rovers were 1-0 up with 10 minutes to go, and they will no doubt prove to be difficult opponents, but our home form should hold us in good stead I feel.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Nathan Jones said: "Luke and Will are back in training. Matty is still a slow process, whatever that means, and  Kayne returns as well following his suspension."

Hayden Carter, Adam Forshaw, Sidnei Tavares, Axel Henriksson and Jake Garrett have all been sidelined for Rovers in recent weeks, so unsure of actual absentees.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

We've met on 81 previous occasions winning 27, Rovers 37 and the remaining 17 fixtures resulting in draws, Blackburn ran out 2-0 victors when we last met in February 2020 thanks to first-half goals at The Valley, so that needs to be addressed doesn't it...

Team...

Nathan Jones has named an unchanged starting XI for this afternoon’s game.

Kayne Ramsay returns to the substitutes bench after missing last Saturday’s victory over Sheffield United due to suspension.

Reece Burke, Lloyd Jones and former Rover Amari’i Bell will make up the back three in front of goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, another former Blackburn player.

James Bree and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs with Conor Coventry, Sonny Carey and captain Greg Docherty in midfield.

Charlie Kelman once again partners Tyreece Campbell up front.

Last weekend’s match-winning super sub Tanto Olaofe is joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Ramsay, Macaulay Gillesphey, Joe Rankin-Costello, Rob Apter, Ibrahim Fullah, Harvey Knibbs and Miles Leaburn.

Charlton: Kaminski; Burke, Jones, Bell; Bree, Coventry, Carey, Docherty (c), Edwards; Kelman, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Ramsay, Gillesphey, Rankin-Costello, Apter, Anderson, Knibbs, Leaburn, Olaofe

No easy games this season but this is one we need to win to demonstrate we belong.
    2-1 and 3 points
  • Long way to go today, and the season, but damned impressive if we win today, we could go above both Birmingham and Wrexham despite them having longer to prepare for the Championship

Could be wrong but I have a hunch that Kelman might be missing today, no intel at all just a gut feeling

Might want to get that gut checked then ;)

I like how Jones has gone for an unchanged team, but equally surprised with Derby on the horizon - I thought we'd do the opposite, but its a nice message to the squad: "f**k up, and get sent off etc. and dont expect to walk back into the team"

    Unchanged team as I suspected.

Got some LOLs for saying we wouldn’t bring Ramsay back in…

I hope this isn't going to be a bad day of predictions for you then

Assume Bree and Burke will come off after 60 mins or so and will play again Tuesday.

I like the unchanged 11, rewards a good performance and carries over confidence

Like Cantwell as a player, not pushed on as I thought he would when he broke into the Norwich team. Is Wharton back on loan from Palace 😂

As Nigel Farage said… you all laughed at me!

I'm not sure it's directly a vote of confidence in the Sheffield starting 11, seeing that that the goal was scored by a sub, and 2 other subs Leaburn and Knibbs were also involved.

I think NJ thinks about starters and finishers now. Both our wins have been from late goals by subs, after we kept it tight.

Stick it on after 75 minutes if you want some action.

Think the point is the starters did. their job to allow the finishers to do their job. The plan stays the same, the starters run the opposition into the ground and then those on the bench finish it off

Surprised Ramsey not straight back in, I thought Burke needed to manage his minutes

oh well - as long as we don’t wait until the 80th min to make changes

please can we win the toss today

    Who's Ronnie Pickering? 😁
  • Surprised no changes for a home game. Campbell, Kelman and Carey are expected to do a lot in front of such a defensive side!
  • Bell, whether to start... of course, and an unchanged eleven. ;-)

Team looks good, be great to see Kelman score today.
