    Mansfield are winning at Sheffield United. 

    That affects us because if Sheffield Utd win, we can play their scheduled opponents Portsmouth on Feb 14th. If Sheffield United lose, we have no game that weekend and Portsmouth likely goes midweek.

    Sheff Utd have equalised now. Dan Kanu's Walsall are currently 1-0 2-0 down at Norwich.

    Barely played the season before, always injured.

    Scored 7 in 17 this season so far before today, but not exactly prolific in his career so far

    When we went up in 98, it was possible for hard work and a sprinkling of quality to get you promoted, and then you had a good chance of surviving. 
    But the game has totally changed. They’ve let money rule and it’s killed hope.
    I think I’d be happy being a well run Championship team. I reckon that’s about as good as it gets for us. 
    I think anything more is fantasy, unless we get minted owners. And even then we’d be miles not light years away from the top teams. Depressing.

    Agree to a certain point then you look at Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth who’ve done it through an amazing conveyor belt of buying untapped talent. It still blows my mind that Brentford are where they are. They were smaller than Leyton Orient 20 years ago.

    The Prem almost feels like a different sport nowadays. The money needed to stay up is astronomical, average squad players are now £20m at least. I'd take 5+ years being solid in the Champ and flirting with the playoffs over one year getting slapped around in the PL even if the money would set the club up for years. 

    The turkey's are never going to vote for Christmas so you'll never get anything that pegs back the Big 6 and the relegated clubs will just yo-yo.

    Portsmouth fans are complaining about injuries to their last 2 available wingers today. They sound as injury stricken as us.

    United have fallen at the first hurdle in both domestic cup competitions for the first time since 1981-82. They are condemned to a 40-game season, the fewest they have played since 1914-15.

    The world's oldest person, 116-year-old Ethel Caterham, was five at the time, so even she probably doesn't remember it.

    they won the cup, fair play, then proceeded to 1) fuck up the celebrations / open top bus thing 2) fucked up the european competition entry thing 3) fucked up retaining it at the first hurdle - quite an achievement  :D

    Had a talk about this with a work colleague. The Big Six (or the Six as I like to refer to them now) is all the clubs that wanted to trot off to the Super League. Doesn't make sense position wise (with Manchester United and Spurs out of the top six), but neither did the Super League.

    The big clubs out of them are Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool (if you don't deem the Women's team as being apart of the club).

    In the Premier League: Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool finished in the champions league sports, Tottenham (17th, but Europa League Champions), Man Utd 16th.

    In the WSL: Chelsea (won the women's FA/League Cup as well as the league), Arsenal (won the champions league), Manchester United and Manchester City finished in the top four (Man City not qualifying for the champions league), Liverpool 7th and Tottenham 11th (one place above relegated Palace).

    The big 6 is basically down to the size of the club and its revenue. Regardless of their league position, the 6 clubs that bring in by far the most revenue are City, United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea.

    As a comparison Newcastle are 7th in terms of revenue and Spurs (who most would consider to be the least deserving of the big 6 status) brought in 200 million more than them.

    Yes with continued champions league football and the some of the big 6 underperforming, then the likes of Newcastle and Villa can close that gap..........but it's a very big gap.

    Yes because the big six is a term used by the media. I understand your point, but whenever I hear that term being used it is usually the media talking about those clubs. 

    *That is why I refer to them as the six.
