Much to my surprise there is a direct train back after the game.

There is a 12.46 from Euston, changing in Stafford and arriving in Stoke 14.59 for £11, a 14.46 changing in Stafford and arriving in Stoke 16.59 for £20.40

The train leaves Stoke at 22.53, getting in to Euston for 1.14 for £26, all fares are before a railcard discount.

Should anybody miss the train home hopefully Munro Mansions and Red Chaser Castle can put you up for a nominal fee.
