Amazing how clever some people are at suggesting good penalty takers when they have never seen them take one. They will do this in training and therefore we can assume Doc had a good training ground record.

Jackson was a very reliable penalty taker from midfield / defence for several seasons, until his legs went of cos, was difficult after that

Genuinely ridiculous that Greg Docherty took that pen. That silly stutter run up and powder puff shot too made it even worse.
As soon as he stuttered his run up I knew it wasn’t going in.

The pen taker was suppose to be Carey, as you can see when Doc pointed to him .. but for some reason he did not want to take it ? Also why your two strikers not ripping the ball out of Doc hand to grab a goal especially Campbell who not scored yet …. Don’t think Doc who never taken a pen before had no option as captain to step up

You're talking shit for a change. Carey said himself in the interview after, he wanted to take it but the designated taker was chosen before the game.

I think Kaminski should have taken it for a laugh

Felt like the entire ground knew we were going to miss that penalty on Tuesday. I’m not sure why but the idea of Leaburn taking a penalty makes me even less confident!
Leaburn scored one for us in league 1. I was expecting him to take it
Didn't he score that in the game against Shrewsbury? We won 6-0 and were four or five up at the time so not much pressure.

Proved he can strike a ball cleanly, isn't that what we're told all penalty taking is?

Excellent penalty record from 3 players who weren't on the pitch.

    Godden - 22
    Kelman - 3
    Knibbs - 7
    Leaburn - 1

I would always feel nervous seeing Doc, Coventry, TC and Tanto step up for the fact the penalties require guile, disguise and accuracy.

Anyhow, we won and I'm sure the players are having a bit of fun on the training ground this week.

Pen takers in order of preference

    1.Carey
    2.Leaburn
    3.Gillesphey or Coventry

    Based on ability and bottle

I thought that doc stepped up when no one else wanted it, now `I hear he was designated pen taker.

Wouldn't have fancied Leaburn personally. Not sure he's the cleanest of ball-strikers.

Full-backs always used to the be the best pen takers - Pearce, Mark Reid, Dicks, Ray Stewart etc - but in the age of the wing-back guess there's not so many about.

Am certain Kelman would have taken it if he was playing but surprised Carey didn't step up given his confidence must be sky-high currently.

It was actually Godden he was pointing to (in the stand). Godden mouthed "it's your time, your time to shine' to him. Thats why Doherty took the penalty. I know this because my daughter's orthodontist plays padel with Matt Godden and they had a good chat about the WBA game yesterday.
  • Anyone who saw TC take a pen in a league cup game a few years ago will know why he did not step up

No - the reason Doc took the penalty was because Nathan Jones designated him as the penalty taker.
