off to Benalmadena this Saturday for 3 nights, surprise trip from the missus with a couple of mates. Found out Tuesday.

All our birthdays close by and the girls sorted us out 3 nights in Spain as a present.

she's defo a keeper!, 3 nights of not having to parent and do the mundane day-to-day crap is worth it's weight in gold.
Or they just want rid of you for a few days :-)

Finished the 2nd part of the Great River Road (Mississippi) back in August, did the northern half last year, finishing in St Louis, started back there this year to do the southern states.

Incredible trip, can highly recommend Reelfoot lakes cabins in Tennessee, in a town called Tiptonville, which I only found out whilst there was the birthplace and hometown of Carl Perkins, even met one of his distant cousins who works at the very small visitors centre, for a 50's and Elvis fan like myself it was complete serendipity.

Went through some amazing places, Clarksdale Mississippi had nothing going for it other than Ground Zero blues club part owned by Morgan Freeman and a small civic centre where Elvis played in the 1954/1955.
Vicksburg for the civil war site, incredible place and a lovely old hotel right by the Mississippi.
Natchez, beautiful, Oxford (student town with a red London bus and phone boxes..... wonder where they got their inspiration from?)
Memphis, my personal highlight, my second visit and this time I got to stay at the famous Peabody duck hotel and spend too much money in the Lansky Bros clothes outlet (Elvis's favourite clothes shop), we both said it was our best ever hotel experience. We visited the civil rights museum as one of my partners tick boxes, for all the wrong reasons it was a great place to visit. Kept away from Beale St, been before.
Graceland, I consider myself a bit of an aficionado/nerd on Elvis, went to Graceland in 2002, although very commercial then, they have completed restructured the outside with different (too many) gift shops and tacky restaurants, although being back in the mansion is always a personal and private thoughts moment for most Elvis fans, it was too Disneyland outside and sadly I couldn't wait to get away this time.
Sun Records, always great just to say you've stood in the same spot as not only Elvis but Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, BB King, Rufus Thomas, to name but a few. (Far too many rockabilly artists to list)

Tupelo, birthplace of Elvis Presley, great to actually go there as a tick box exercise for me, and the although the church his family used was moved, they moved it back to the original spot with all the original timber on the outside.

Laplace, Louisiana, overnight stay for a gator swamp tour, amazing, they feed them marshmallows these days, not chicken to attract them

New Orleans, went right to the end of the river road to a place called Venice, not much to see there but a tick box exercise.
The architecture in the French quarter was incredible, I also got to visit and recreate some scenes and locations from the Elvis film King Creole.
Jackson Square well worth a visit and the famous Café Du Monde and the very sugary beignets.
It still has lots to do to recover from Hurricane Katrina over 20 years ago, Louis Armstrong park is very run down currently.

We stayed right in the French Quarter near Bourbon street, if I go back I would stay elsewhere, Bourbon street got a bit too much Benidormy for me, nice to experience it, but just the once.
The only other disappointment was visiting the famous rotating circular bar at Hotel Monteleone, closed for refurbishment.......dont they know who I am?

Its a great trip if you plan correctly.

Where in Rhodes?. Just back from Rhodes town yesterday, was there for a week. It kept forecasting storms but only saw rain for about 10 mins one night and a storm in the distance that looked like it was on the Turkish side.

I loved Rhodes Town and the old town. Shame they've not sorted out the waste pipe systems though 😅.

Is that second photo St Paul's Bay? Or is that the other side? Did a couple of dives in the caves under the acropolis in Lindos earlier this year. Great experience even if the Med was a little cold and sea life is lacking a bit.

Looking at the map, it does seem to be St. Paul's Bay
  • Just spent a week in a place called Vico Equense near Sorrento Italy . Great place to visit various places like Pompei which is unbelievable place to visit .

We had 11am flights to Stockholm booked. 7am Norwegian tell us it's cancelled, and have put my partner and I on different flights. I'd have to stay tonight in Oslo, and she'd get to Stockholm 15 hours before our flight back Sunday morning!

So that's Norwegian also on my no-go list. If they'd told us last night we'd have at least had other morning options today.
Maybe they didn’t know last night?

Ensure that you understand your position in regards to compensation under UK261 legislation.
Cheers, we had insurance for the hotels thankfully and apparently we could each get £220 compensation (minus commission). They didn't give a reason for cancelling and I can't find one online, so that suggests airline error.

I've missed my Swedish parkrun and football today (AIK v Sirius) so I'm going to look into Gothenburg later in their season.
By the way - Norwegian still haven't paid this.

They claim there were "exceptional circumstances" whilst not being able to say what the exceptional circumstances were.

So this was best given to a 3rd party to do the chasing and getting legal advice.

Moral of the story - don't use Norwegian Airlines.

Lovely place mate. Salt mines worth seeing and obviously Auschwitz if you’ve got the time. Was about 20 years ago we went but plenty of good bars and places to eat.

Apparently there is a wax museum worth a view, if only for comedy purposes.

In fairness to Norwegian, they are perfectly good and I’ve used them many times without issue. Any airline can have schedule issues, and if they believe the issue was extraordinary circumstance then they are perfectly entitled to decline compensation. Extraordinary circumstance relates to anything that was outside of their control - weather, air traffic restrictions, industrial action etc.

I’m pretty sure they will have rejected your claim based on the facts, rather than just trying to avoid their legal obligation, given the jurisdiction and legislation they are operating under.

Travellers are enormously well protected by EU / UK261 - but it doesn’t apply to every delay, and rightly so.

I wouldn't trust an airline to not try to get away with it. It's like they are dodging confirming what the extraordinary circumstance actually was - if their was a reason that is an extraordinary circumstance, then why not say what it was?
