One one hand don’t overreact. We can bounce back.

However, I do think that our left side currently has massive issues.

Docherty, Gillesphey, Hernandez and TC is just a mess. TC is the only one who looks remotely a championship starter.

Has to be addressed in Jan.

Jones has 3 days to figure out what he's going to do about this wing-back position, with our current injury issues, otherwise we get spanked by Stoke as well.

Midfield 3 an embarrassment as well.

Squad worth 20x ours, new manager bounce and a massive injury list so a defeat was always likely, but that performance is still completely unacceptable. They’ve scored 5 goals without even doing anything good.

Every performance since Ipswich has been poor and with Jones now seemingly injured we may be in for a very rough period. Still, in Jonesy we trust.

You cannot blame NJ for the injuries, but starting with Apter and Hernandez as wingbacks was suicidal, as me and others pointed out beforehand. After 2-0 NJ should have brought on Costello, which he did at 4 and made it harder for the 13. But too late.
  • Hard to accept but that was a proper lesson on how to attack.

Watching the second goal again. Docherty doesn’t bring the man down when he should (either due to lack of pace or intelligence), then doesn’t track him into the area

It’s not good enough at this level.

What ever the question, Apter and Hernandez are not the answer,

For a team that gives few chances in most games we basically gave them an open door through the midfield for half an hour and they destroyed us with pace I haven’t seen from any other team this season. Armstrong is a very good player. Onwards and upwards…..hopefully.
  • This has to be a time for pragmatism, and that means the wingback approach isn't going to work.  Hernandez and Apter together clearly isn't the answer as it leaves us open on both sides. The gap between Macca and Hernandez resembled the Panama Canal for most of that first half.

Up front, still don't think Leaburn starting is the answer. Didn't look bothered for that first half in the slightest.

There’s a reason Hull got shot of Docherty - no way near good enough, but he runs around a lot so people like him.

That was a draw after 22 minutes. Big thanks to Saints for stopping when they did.

Great at looking busy, without offering much in either direction of play. We do have options in midfield, now is the time to try them out.

Charlton tannoy playing Bruce Hornsby and the Range as Sky sign off "...that's just the way it is, some things will never change..."

same for Gillesphey at Plymouth. except the running around bit.
  • A loss today, but 2 away wins await. You never know with Charlton.

I’m sure I remember a game in SCP’s promotion season when we were 4-0 down at half time, at home (Notts County?). I hope this is a blip like that and not the start of a long struggle.

Southampton were good, especially first half.

Outplayed and taught a lesson by a far better team who were quicker and sharper all over the pitch. Haven't seen us defend that poorly for a while.

Not sure really what to do for Tuesday night formation or personnel wise. Had it in my head second half to go 4231 with Bree and Ramsay as fullbacks but asking Doc to hold would be asking for trouble , but Apter-Carey-TC behind Tanto would be interesting.
