Can anybody tell me whether the 486 bus runs its normal scheduled route up and down Charlton Church Lane on matchdays, or is it diverted.
I am up from Dorset as usual for the Pompey game, but want to take the 486 to Queen Elizabeth Hospital post match to visit my 94 year old mum

It is diverted via Woolwich Road & John Wilson St, but normally stops at bus Stop E on Woolwich Road, bus 161 also stops here & also serves the QE Hospital.

Lovely, thanks @clive0

There are delays tg the 486 (and the 161) caused by the roadworks to install cycle lanes along Woolwich Road.
There are also temporary traffic lights at the junction just before the hospital causing delays to both routes.
I usually walk through Maryon Wilson Park and up Cemetery Lane to Woolwich Common after games.3 -

As it's uphill I reckon 30-45 mins to the hospital front doors.1

Think I'll be taking the bus, delays notwithstanding.
A leisurely stroll in late summer might have appealed but slogging it uphill in the dark and probable wet isn't for me0 -
It's not all uphill. Around 30 minutes. Less if you're in the AC stand and walk through Charlton Park. Leave via the Sam Bartram gate which eliminates most of the uphill walk.Covered End said:As it's uphill I reckon 30-45 mins to the hospital front doors.0 -
Yes I agree if you're in The Curbs Stand, exit via The Sam Bartram Gate, walk up Charlton Lane and through Charlton Park or along Charlton Park Road, up Cemetery Lane, turn into Ha Ha Road, then right into Stadium Road an unfit 71 year old may be able to do it in 30 mins.Crusty54 said:

I was commenting on your suggestion that he walks up through Maryon Wilson Park, which is clearly all uphill and you wouldn't be walking up through Maryon Wilson Park if you exit the Curbs Stand onto Charlton Lane.0 -
If you want to bus it I reckon get to the north side of Woolwich Road via Ransom Walk and hop on the next available 161. Yes there are roadworks, but the delays aren’t too bad.2

Except most 161s have a driver change in Woolwich which adds minutes. Another delay for the temporary lights near the hospital.FreshHaddock said:If you want to bus it I reckon get to the north side of Woolwich Road via Ransom Walk and hop on the next available 161. The 486 uses the same stop when on diversion after the game.
(The roadworks can mean that the stop is out of use.)0 -

This is what I did in the end and the same for the way back. Fairly pain free!FreshHaddock said:If you want to bus it I reckon get to the north side of Woolwich Road via Ransom Walk and hop on the next available 161. Yes there are roadworks, but the delays aren’t too bad.
Thanks all who gave advice3
