For a number of reasons (inter alia crap weather, getting home way too late especially for grandson no 2 with school the following day, I've got a crap back that could really do without umpteen hours in the car) I'm not going tomorrow so I'll be watching at home instead.

On the basis of what I saw on Saturday (which wasn't overly convincing) I'm not holding out much hope of a positive result against Boro.

All I'll wish for is a spirited performance (which in recent years hasn't always gone hand-in-hand with tribute matches or special occasions) that lifts the hearts of the Charlton fans and does Norm's memory proud.

What would be really good would be if we manage to score a goal the players run over to the touchline and celebrate by whacking on pairs of headphones.

    Charlton 1 Boro 3

For once I’m really not arsed about the result. This game is a chance for the Charlton family to say goodbye and show respect to probably the last instantly recognisable supporter that we have had over the decades. He was seen at every game home or away rain or shine whatever the results.

Not feeling good about this one. I just don't see us picking up results at the moment.

Don’t usually do midweek games as it’s a bit of a late night for the boy on a school night but I have a special acceptance pass from his mother for this one.

Think we could get tonked but hopefully we can defend a lot better than of late.

Start that team we picked on Saturday then all I can see is a defeat. 0-3

Result is immaterial after Saturday. Will be a difficult day for players and fans.

Expect Boro to win with ease.
Yes it will be a difficult day for us all but I doubt Headphones Norm would consider the result immaterial. Let’s win it for Norm. COYA.

Soon is the best time to get back into it.

Obviously if the Charlton players come out and repeat the same performance and effort they gave in the first 12 minutes on Saturday we might not be best pleased but that’s up to us to get them to sharpen up and raise their game from the start.

NJ needs to work all his motivational magic and get this team at it again. Seem too weak and timid recently, and I know injuries etc have played a part and we have lost quality, but we need the grit back in our game.
Really hope Bell is back, and if he can only play x amount of minutes then Roussillon can come on.

Only way I see us getting a result is if we can limit Boro to scoring 1 and we can nick a draw. Would love us to be able to keep a clean sheet but atm just seems unlikely.

I still have trust in NJ and we were always going to have a bad patch in this league, just need to come out of it now. The fans, players and staff have a emotional motivational tool for this and all remaining games, do it for Norm, we all need to pull together and show the unwavering and dedication to CAFC that he has done for decades.

    COYR!!!!

I hope Alex Gilbert gets a good reception. Wasn’t a key player but was still important in our promotion
Sort of player that would be vital for us i think atm, hes playing a sort of deep midfield disruptor but one that actually has the ability to create something too. Mind you hes only played a couple games so hopefully hes run out of steam and fucks up tonight

Fortunately, the season stretches to 46 matches, because right now Charlton are absolutely feeling the strain. A brutal run of fixtures paired with an injury list long enough to wallpaper The Valley isn’t exactly helping the mood.

I’m braced for a defeat today and let’s be honest, it’s likely. I don’t see us taking a hammering. Something like a 0–1 to Boro feels about right. I just don’t believe we’ll keep leaking goals at the rate we have been.

And it doesn’t get much kinder from here. Birmingham next, then Oxford and Norwich, before rounding off the year away at Portsmouth. I can’t see us scraping more than six points from that set, and even that would rely on Oxford and Pompey being the ones we catch on a bad day. If we limp out of December with six from a possible 12 (or 15 if the postponed match is counted), you’d have to worry about the squad’s ability—and morale—to dig itself out.

Anyone who genuinely thought we’d hover around the play-offs was, frankly, kidding themselves. That was never going to last. I’m hoping—and very much expecting—a significant January window to give us even a fighting chance of dragging ourselves to safety.

On a side note, the last thing I wanted to see was Wrexham finding their feet and then landing fresh investment on top of it. The new backers are reportedly worth about £5 billion, which is just peachy. If I’ve got a secondary aim for the season, it’s to finish above them—but let’s not kid ourselves: survival is, and always has been, the only real target.

Our fate won’t be decided by the bad run we’re in, but by whether we finally decide we’re sick of living in it.

I'd set us up like this:

    Kaminski

    Ramsay – Jones – Gillesphey

    Bree – Anderson – Coventry – Carey – Campbell

    Leaburn – Olaofe

Subs: Mannion, Roussillon, Apter, Costello, Doc, Knibbs, Berry, Hernandez & Fullah

It’s not a strong bench, but we don’t have the luxury of easing our way into matches. We have to throw everything at every side this month and hope the injured players recover quickly. Beyond Berry, there isn’t an obvious game changer, though Apter and Hernandez have at least shown they can produce something in previous seasons elsewhere.

And honestly, I can see both Coventry and Jones missing out against Birmingham anyway. I just don’t think either gets through ninety minutes against a faster, stronger side without giving away something costly.

The result does not seem at all important after Saturday.

On the football side, Hernandez needs to be kept on the bench he is terrible.

Let's hope Boro have read the script tonight...🤞
  • Would much rather see Fullah at LWB than Hernandez, IF started a few cup games there and did well.

Playing cup games against League 1 and League 2 opposition is a very different prospect to lining up against 2nd in the league with a Right Winger in great form. That’s the kind of situation that could ruin a young players confidence

I’m not sure that we can just assume that the same team will start. I think Anderson was put in to take advantage of certain Portsmouth frailties. I think we might well see Doc start for more solidity against a tougher team, and Anderson to come on as a sub maybe.

I seem to remember we always struggle vs Boro.

I think this will be a tight game and I have a feeling we might get a late winner again under the lights
Last time we played them at home they beat us and sent us into the bottom 3. Then Covid & lockdown struck......
Ah, god. If I need a depression injection, you always have a dose, don’t you ? :)
