It is going to get suspended sentences. That is so annoying. What message does that send out? He keeps doing it.

He will never stop offending. It's in his blood. He can't help himself.

Great message sent by the law courts . Ridiculous .

This is so frustrating. It is not like he has done it over a period of couple of months, when pissed. He keeps fucking doing it, time and time again. He is a wrong un. He does it day after day, year after year.

The jury does not pass sentence.

I 100% agree. Hopefully the CPS appeal the leniency of the sentence - but I won't hold my breath.

The thing about Joey Barton, is that he's a professional (unt. Once you accept that about him, it's much easier to ignore every single piece of evidence that he exists and just get on with your life.

It's so important this was got right, people like him drive the online attitudes of a lot of people.

    Is it though?

No doubt that he’s an odious turd and should possibly have done time for some of his other shit…..but Prison time for this would seem over the top for me.

If you have six convictions, you shouldn't be getting a suspended sentence for anything. You have proved time and time again that you have no respect for the law.
  • Him and Katie Price must be in competition to see who can appear in court the most without actually getting any jail time.

I don't like the idea of sending people to prison for saying things. As much as he is a horrible little bastard

Problem with him is he won't learn. He never has, so will test the resolve of a judge and something will happen that means he won't be able to keep his mouth shut about and will end up taking up jail space. Joey Barton is one of those blokes who I'd feel fairly confident having a physical confrontation with in black and white terms but you would have to kill him. No way would he take a slap and leave it at that regardless of how much he goes on about having a straightener and moving on. People like him never do so I bet he has gotten away with loads of his behaviour purely because anyone who decided he needed a whack probably realised that so decided to ignore him or turn the other cheek so he carries on and gets worse

I'm pretty sure Barton can handle himself though. Didn't he do amateur boxing as a kid (i admit i might have imagined that).

Read his autobiography earlier this year - a good read. He blames his upbringing and environment for the fact that he can't turn the other cheek. It's probably the reason why he made it as a player but is also no excuse for being as antisocial as he is at his age. He won't change coz i don't think he really wants to so should take on the chin what goes with that. Hopefully it doesn't get worse than arguing and offending on line.

It turns out that he has four children, I would like to think that he is a different man behind the four walls of his home.
I imagine they must get dogs abuse once people know who the father is.

"In March 2022, a court heard that Barton was accused of kicking his wife in the head and grabbing her throat while drunk" (from Wikipedia)

So no, he's exactly the same dickhead at home.

he left that bit out of the autobiography - like gazza, once it moves on to bullying / violence against women, he kind of loses any sympathy and just becomes an inadequate arsehole. Case closed.

I think it's a good result to be honest. Prison would have just had him come out of there claiming he was a free speech victim and probably ramp up his attempted online grift. Instead he's got the sentence hanging over him, which he'll probably violate because not doing something actionable in 6 months is a hell of a lot for Joey Barton, he's got to do 200 hours of community service which he'll hate, he has to pay £23,419 worth of costs within 28 days which he almost certainly can't afford given his own legal costs and the £110,000 he owes Jeremy Vine, and he has a 2 year restraining order on referencing any of the people in the case so he can't even whine about them online after the fact until long after he's ceased to be the tiny amount of relevant he is now. It's a real kicking for him and his nascent online controversy merchant career. Hilarious stuff

You would be correct, the ability to hold a stance and throw a combination is an advantage in a fight. What I was getting at is I don't believe he would take his medicine. He is the type who carries grudges and would never let the beating go. Most of us with sense who lose a straight fight learn the lesson from it and move on, he definitely would not

It was written before he decided to batter his wife . I’ve read the book and it is a good read but one thing you get from it is that he will always be a wrong’n.

yep, agreed, particularly as he praises his wife so much in the book - just shows he has no control over himself when the 'red mist' descends
