MATCH THREAD : Birmingham City V Charlton Athletic : Saturday 13th December 2025 : KO 15:00
Good afternoon one and all…
After the emotional evening last Tuesday, when we all, and I mean all including the Boro team and supporters, paid our respects to Norman with that tremendous video and period of applause, it was good to see Norman's family and relatives pitch side also…We now find ourselves back on the road today and a trip north to St Andrews, and a match with Birmingham City, who sit far too comfortably in mid table 11th spot with 28 points, but having suffered defeat in their last two matches on the road, not quite as many as us but a straw to cling onto none the less, but they do have a worryingly good home record this season, until today of course…👌
Nathan in his pre match interview ruing the situation of having Mbick and Kanu out on loan, with DK now on 10 goals while we are crying out for striker cover, but we have to play with the cards dealt, with Godden and Kelman "closer than last week", what a silly phrase that is becoming, but apparently the injured are trickling back. In the coming weeks, we'll be in a much stronger position and we look forward to that."…amen to that!!
The hosts are expected to be without Laird, Lee, Buchanan, and Wright, though Cochrane and Willumsson could both return.
We've gone toe-to-toe on 68 previous occasions, winning 24, the Blues winning 23 and the remaining 21 fixtures ending in draws, Brum ran out 1-0 victors at St. Andrew's when we last met in February thanks to Jay Stansfield's first -half goal.
we'll be wearing our red home kit in the West Midlands…so COYR
Team …
Karoy Anderson, Ibrahim Fullah and Tanto Olaofe return to the starting line up
The trio come in for Harvey Knibbs, Luke Berry and Tyreece Campbell as Nathan Jones makes three changes from the midweek defeat to Middlesbrough at The Valley.
Kayne Ramsay, skipper Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey could start in front of Thomas Kaminski, with James Bree and Fullah operating as wing-backs.
Conor Coventry, Sonny Carey and Anderson are likely to occupy the midfield, while Miles Leaburn will partner Tanto Olaofe up top.
Will Mannion, Josh Laqeretabua, Jérôme Roussillon, Joe Rankin-Costello, Greg Docherty, Berry, Knibbs, Rob Apter and Campbell make up the substitutes bench.
Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey, Bree, Coventry, Carey, Anderson, Fullah, Olaofe, Leaburn.
Subs: Mannion, Laqeretabua, Roussilllon, Rankin-Costello, Docherty, Berry, Knibbs, Apter, Campbell.

I think we'll huff and puff, but lose 1-0 anyway. Love to be proved wrong! COYA!2

TC benched. Fullah, Anderson and Tanto get a chance from the off13
-
Coventry and Anderson, like I said2
-
I'm surprised Jones has dropped his son (TC)4

Fair play for listening to me. More mobility in there with Anderson and Fullah.
Only a matter of time before Fullah starts scoring in league games.
Something different up front which is definitely worth a go.7 -
Stoke 2-0 Swansea...
Norwich 1-1 Southampton1 -
Dont dislike that... Olaofe and Leaburn worked well as a pairing at Ipswich, with Campbell effective when coming on.
Hope we'll be playing four at the back, as really don't want Fullah exposed to having to play Wing-Back whilst getting used to Senior Football2 -

I’m reading that as a 532 with Fullah at LWB5
-
Not expecting anything from today but glad we are least trying something different upfront6

Fullah yay
At lwb?
Not so yay1 -
Box Midfield again?
Coventry at the base, with Anderson and Carey on the "flanks" and Fullah behind the Striker would be my presumption
Either that or we'll go narrow, a bit like what we did at the Valley against Birmingham last year when we won 1-0
That day we had Docherty and Coventry covering the Defence, with Anderson and Campbell doing a lot of the pressing in front of them.2 -
I like it. Hope Anderson and Tanto get a sustained chance. Time for Leaburn to step-up.1
-
He's finally dropped Campbell, let's see if we look better or worse1
-
That would be a diamond not a box. The second option would be the box though.ForeverAddickted said:Box Midfield again?

Im still going 532 though based on that graphic and how exposed we were down the flanks first half the other day5 -
Probably a 352 with Fullah at wingback though Jones did play a 442 diamond midfield at times at his previous clubs. Could potentially be Anderson and Fullah on the sides of the diamond. More athleticism in this side but anytime Anderson touches the ball I get nervous we are going to turn it over0

Could we look any worse than we have done lately?sam3110 said:He's finally dropped Campbell, let's see if we look better or worse1 -
Don’t see the point in us using a diamond when we generally go direct.
It was great under Bowyer as that side could pass the ball well but we had strikers who gave us the option of being more direct too.2 -
Yeah sorry... Diamond was what I meant, rather than box at the start of that postfenaddick said:

So, if we start with a four at the back and no wingback cover either side we will get overrun down the wings, as happened on Tuesday. Somebody has to protect Gillesphey. If it is not TC then who? Rousillon must be so unfit not to start.2
-
Many people getting their wish to see Campbell dropped to the bench.
I don't doubt the lad needed a rest, but we'll miss his press.
Fingers crossed.
Every poor run has to finish sooner or later ...... 😊3 -
Fullah at LWB, OS is suggesting that as the likely formation.Southbank said:So, if we start with a four at the back and no wingback cover either side we will get overrun down the wings, as happened on Tuesday. Yes, I think it would be unfair to lay a criticism at Jones re; that selection. He’s trying something that on paper looks sensible, and not relying on the likes of Docherty and TCAndyG said:Not expecting anything from today but glad we are least trying something different upfront2 -
Game is live on BBC Radio London today (not online)4

Sorry home win 3-10

I agree. It might not work out but given that a (justified) criticism of Jones is that he can stick with certain tactics/players for a bit too long sometimes, I won't be annoyed that he has at least tried to change things up a bit.cabbles said:
