Many years ago I worked in Stratford E15, these where a favourite from Percy Ingle’s bakery. Know to locals as “Hairy Marys”

So simple, yet so delicious! I made a banana bread version last year that was superb
Love banana bread. My sister makes it every now and then and it's perfection with a glass of milk (yeah bit odd but I do love a glass of milk with something sweet)
That’s the only way to have it mate👍🏼👍🏼

My wife, (she trained as a chef in her long ago youth), makes the best bread pudding I have ever tasted. She made it for me once.

    Food of the Gods.

Can't get it up here (they always say "do you mean bread and butter pudding?". Heathens.

Can't be arsed to make it so we get ours from here - absolutely delicious.

Looks OK-ish - not dark enough so I suspect it’s light on the cinnamon.

I was hankering after bread pudding and thought I’d make some. Couldn’t remember what my mum put in so looked up recipes on line. They all seem to have milk and egg in them. I do know my mum’s one was water and bread no dairy.

Are they confusing bread pudding with bread and butter pudding?

How was it made in your family?

stale bread dried fruits , spices fats butter and lard or margarine, and water mix to form a dough. That is what I remember.
Sounds right, except Mum or Dad would soak the bread overnight then squeeze it out before mixing.

I had a big slab of bread pudding on Saturday!

We grabbed a quick lunch on the way back to Westerham through Biggin Hill and popped into the airport cafe which is quite basic but the food is pretty good.  The bread pudding was screaming at me to eat it, so I did and it was bloody lovely.
