I don’t think there was much we could have done there that was a good goal
He was completely free in the box when it fell to him. He should have been picked up

Did ok first 45, with the lo/no press working. Great finish for their goal and a shame we didnt make it to ht. More of same and subs, no red cards or injuries and hold our heads hiugh. COYA!

Quite pleased with the fight we are putting up. The less said about James Bree the better

I do wonder why Carey doesn't take our fee kicks.

I'm proud of the lads so far. It's a shame we couldn't get to half time at 0-0 but if we get these set pieces right we can get back into this game

Boys can be proud of themselves there. Very well organised. Campbell and Bell especially under a lot of pressure but dealing with it well.

Kelman should have been quicker to pick up Jones’ clearance and then Gough really needs to be out quicker and stand up to that volley - that said, very good strike.

Need to be quicker on winning possession and getting the ball forwards quickly, not going backwards and letting them reorganise - that’s been the story of this bad run though.

Leaburn causing them all sorts of problems and nice flashes from Kelman.

Bree needs to come off set-pieces.

From my seat in the west we have defended ok, but constantly hoofing it back to the opposition isn’t really an attacking game plan is it.
After nearly 2 years of watching Jonesball it appears to be the only plan, tough watching this style when the results aren't coming in

Makes it all the more frustrating that we can defend this well against Chelsea but have fallen apart against lesser sides in the past month or two.

Bree's set pieces are still awful.

Needed to close him down for the goal, first time we didn't charge it down and they score.

No idea what the tactics are now as it's a winner takes it all game, no use sitting back second half
  • Shame about the goal, but you are not going to out pass Chelsea, we need to make the most of free kicks and corners, when we do actually win some!.... We win a free kick in the last minute and we cannot clear there wall. Of course it is not easy, no one thought it would be, Leaburn is winning the ball, but there is no one able to take advantage of it.

In games like this the odd free kick and corner are your chances, we waste them every single time with Bree. Honestly don’t know how he’s gone from one of the best delivery’s in years to total nonsense in a few months.
That's why the short corners are an absolute waste, whip it in the box and hope Leaburn gets in the end of it, we won't be making many chances from open play.

The performance is good don't get me wrong, but we don't look like scoring in a month of Sundays.

Other than a tame Kelman performance and Doc getting caught out of position constantly, this has been alright
Think Kelman has been really lively

Nowhere near physical enough for me. And should have been on his toes on the edge of the box for their goal.

Just realised it’s exactly three years to the day since the Old Trafford league cup game.

Carey and Kelman very passive in that respect, Leaburn winning the ball and they're nowhere near him for the most part

We've done excellently first half and Chelsea can think themselves fortunate to be going in one up, sure we will get a goal second half...COYR

Well you do one of two things, go all guns blazing and try to get the equaliser and winner, or you play as we are, continue playing for the one goal and the gamble of penalties.

Ffs . Is there no-one else who can take a free kick?

    This is bloody ridiculous.
We've had a few set pieces tonight, and that was the first failed one from Bree
He's not going to get it 100% right all the time.
He is a ‘professional’ footballer I thought. Clearing the first man is a reasonable expectation every time.

Shame we didn’t hold out to half time, but no surprise they scored. The lads are doing as much as we can ask for. No interest in Charlton at all on the TNT coverage.

If we do the same thing second half that we did in the first, we can play til February and not score a goal

Any insights on the Garnacho hate ? Anything to do with the league cup game against Man U a few years back?

Don't think we will change much unless Chelsea get a second.

Bree's fall from grace is something else. Our best player and so much class when he first started in the team

Playing for Penalties from the 1st whistle is one way of playing against Chelsea I guess but it doesn't make for a great spectacle.
We have been organised but until our passing improves on the counter this have always looked the impossible dream.
I went 0-3 and with Chelsea finally breaking the deadlock there will be more holes in the CAFC defence 2nd half.
I think we could get at them but will Nathan release the handbrake now we are one down ?
Leaburn our best player so far.

Also gotta feel for Goughy, turned away from the shot. Makes it look like he had a chance to do better.
