Holder and Shepherd have played brilliantly - given WI a very competitive score.
SA have clearly been stand out team so far this tourno, although its normally a team that peaks at the end that wins it - hope for England maybe, IF Buttler can sort himself out.0 -
This one looks over, SA are absolutely cooking.0

South Africa ruthlessly win by 9 wickets with 23 balls to spare. They remain the only unbeaten side in the tournament and are straight into the semis, assuming Zimbabwe don't beat both India and South Africa and the West Indies don't defeat India. With just that "dead rubber" ahead of them against Zimbabwe in the group stage, they can probably too get out onto the golf course with a club in one hand and a pint in the other.
The Windies have only themselves to blame for that "gung ho" approach by the majority of their batters - not one of their top six lasted longer than 11 balls. This was never an 83-7 deck, an effort made even worse by the fact that three batters had previous warnings in being dropped prior to getting out. Assuming India defeat Zimbabwe, they now need to beat India to make the semis automatically and without the need for NRR to come into play.

Very impressive from SA again.
Only weak spot they potentially have is if they get a spin-friendly pitch as they only really have Maharaj of any quality in that dept.0 -
Zimbabwe win the toss and have put India in0

Come on Zimbabwe you fuck wits, you're getting destroyed...0

Might be nearer 300 the way things have started. There's always some sort of correction but with Dube coming in at 7, India aren't going to stop coming on what looks like a really good batting deck.0 -

And then, somehow, Samson manages to put one virtually straight down the throat of Burl at deep midwicket

The collapse begins...

The remaining 14 overs are going to feel like an eternity for Zimbabwe!0 -
Spin has arrested the scoring rate with just 10 off the next couple of overs, albeit probably temporarily, but that isn't good news for Zimbabwe anyway given the resources India have in that department.0
-
It's not often that a side at this stage of any WC, after just nine overs, is 1.01 to win.0

109-1 (10)0

Another break through. Got to hold this India side to under 200, can't see it happening with 9 more overs.
124/20 -
Two potentially expensive dropped catches now.
134-2 (12)0 -
Zimbabwe just dropped a clear catch. When I say dropped he literally didn't even get a fingertip to it.
2 dropped catches so far.0 -
India finish on 256-4
An incredible 17 sixes in the innings0 -

And so the Tamil crowd go wild as India reach a total of 256/4
Second highest total in a T20 world cup
Zimbabwe have virtually no chance... Sigh...0 -

All good Surrey supporters seem to suffer a certain delusion regarding their success i.e. if their side needed 256 to win against Kent and lost by 6 runs, they would still claim it as a win.1 -
I'm not sure if some of their supporters are particularly happy with a couple of their big guns, namely Cummins and Hazlewood because there is a feeling that they have been saving themselves for the IPL rather than risking themselves in the WC.Leuth said:Incredibly, incredibly embarrassing tournament for Australia0 -
India win by 72 runs
All credit to Brian Bennett, a name that is in complete contradiction with his 22 years of age, not just for his superb 97* (59) in this game but for now averaging 277 in this World Cup!!!2 -
Hopefully someone gets Bennett a county deal , looks a real talent.Addick Addict said:India win by 72 runs

I've said this for years but I've never understood why the MOM has to come from the winning side. Hardik received it for his 50* (23) and 0-21 off 3 overs but I'm sorry India would have won without his efforts and Bennett's 97* off 59 is far more of an achievement (especially taking into account the respective bowling attacks they both faced).
Dare I say that, in the good old days, the best performance on the day received the award and that is, in my opinion, how it should be.2
