James Rew is 22 and hit his 12th FC hundred today in 96 career innings. Only Tendulkar and Bradman had more at the same age and that's the same number as Zak Crawley has from 251 innings.

Would love to see him debut this summer but just can't quite fit him into the current lineup. Awesome talent.

Smith still has some credit in the bank but should he repeat some of the poor decisions he made in the Ashes then he probably is the vulnerable one specifically for that middle-order berth. Of course, Crawley and Duckett should be looking over their shoulders too with regards to their positions as openers.

Foakes 124no, but we have to select a part time keeper, as he scores more runs
Smith has done quite well, other than the Ashes .

With the bat, hasn't been good enough with the gloves at any point.

Adequate though, by modern standards , bar the Ashes

Buttler, having looked like he didn't know one end of the bat from the other in the WC, has now found his form in India - 48* out of a partnership of 50 with Gill in the IPL

Ton for Ben McKinney. Yes I know the Glocs attack is weak but that's a very impressive knock

Jack Leach has heard that there might be a spot for him in the England team. He's opening the batting for Somerset.

England to go Gay all of a sudden, Cary Grant style?

I mentioned him 18 months ago. At that time, as we know from the post-Ashes review, the England management were not paying any attention to what was going on in the CC be that in terms of runs accumulated or the views of players and coaches. This is now meant to be changing.

Lees (long shot), McKinney and Gay all at Durham should all be realistic options to replace Crawley and it’s interesting that they’re all the same club so can’t all open. There was a very good interview with Gay on the Wisden pod a couple of weeks ago, well worth seeking out

Looks like Steven Finn is in the frame to be the new selector. An interesting move from Finn as it will surely limit his media work. Darren Gough and Nick Knight also mentioned

Regardless of what his true age is, I'm not sure that there has ever been a more talented young, white ball, batter in the history of the game than Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. World class bowlers, whatever form they come in and whatever they bowl to him, find it virtually impossible to restrict him.

I am the gift that keeps giving to bowlers. Next ball full toss and he's out for 43 off 16 balls. Poor!

Still, he is the leading scorer in the IPL with exactly 400 runs at an average of 44.44 and strike rate of 238.04

4-49 for Yorkshire youngster Joe Root as Yorkshire win at Taunton.  With Bess also getting 4 wickets,  nice to see spin coming to the fore so early in the season.

Or the current England captain coming from Durham too albeit that didn't help Ollie Robinson in any real respect. Or the current ECB Director of Cricket being best mates with the father of the England opening batter.

Unless those positions are held by people with no connection with a county there will always be a perceived conflict of interest. Some holding those positions might have too much influence in that regard.
