I hate to say this (and it is the Charlton in me) but Rogers hasn't played a single game of cricket since his last game for us last July. He missed the whole of the Big Bash with a shoulder injury. He hasn't, as yet, played for Tasmania either but at least he'll be fresh and hopefully fully fit.0

You can take the boy out of Kent. You can't take him out of the treatment room though.Addick Addict said:I hate to say this (and it is the Charlton in me) but Rogers hasn't played a single game of cricket since his last game for us last July. Jas Singh (seamer)
Stewart (seamer/batter)
Sturman (seamer, from 3 April - 16 May)0 -
I have to say that our options in the Blast are looking rather good. There is no guarantee that Crawley will be with England but, even if he is, then we do have numerous alternatives for that competition. Far more than in previous years in fact although I'm not sure that Northeast will be appearing in the shortest form of the game - he didn't last season for Glamorgan.
From the 15 that played last year we've lost Leaning, Gilchrist and Agar but gained Dudgeon, Milnes and Muthusamy plus we have those that didn't make an appearance in the comp namely Quinn, Cohen, Compton, Jaydn Denly, Ben Dawkins, Jas Singh, Ekansh Singh, Curtiss, Flintoff.
Our best starting XI should look something like this:
DBD
Muyeye
Crawley
Denly (Joe)
Billings
Evison
Finch
Muthusamy
Stewart/Milnes
Dudgeon/Rogers
Parkinson/Klaassen0 -
Hate to say it but you sent me down the same path with the England 2025 thread the other dayfenaddick said:

Not many Kent players got a Hundred place in the auction, if I'm reading it right just Zak for Leeds and Billings for Trent.
Whereas before we still lost squad players to that competition, with the new system I'm not sure how that works now. We should have a strong 50 over team.2 -
Muyeye selected1

In Manchester, i missed him. So just 3?BarnehurstBob said:Muyeye selected0 -
For 50k which is more than Ollie Pope, Jason Roy and Reece Topley. I know none of those are at the top of their game but they’re relatively recent England players so it’s a good marker of his valueBarnehurstBob said:Muyeye selected0 -
Decent squad, no idea why Quinn and Cohen still have contracts after less than average few seasons, surely an Ari Karvelas who was recently released by Sussex would be a better option than them 2?Addick Addict said:Updated squad:

I'm shocked you haven't signed Karvelas yet. Even plays Kent League cricket and I thought he'd be a perfect fitIR94 said:

My thoughts exactly, makes so much sense, good averages, and I am sure not on a big wage, but the Kent board doesn't always act in sense!MarcusH26 said:

The squad for our opening two-day match against Sussex commencing tomorrow. Billings, Joe Denly and Klaassen are only going to be playing white ball, the overseas players have yet to arrive which means the other missing ones are Crawley, Benjamin, Dawkins, Ekansh, Curtiss and Flintoff. A few of the latter ones are at Uni and won't be needed in the early part of the season.

As much as I originally thought we might be interested in Karvelas, his performances in the last couple of seasons for Sussex do not exactly scream "sign me".IR94 said:

Sturman (seamer, from 3 April - 16 May)
In the CC:
2025 - 5 wickets at 47.80
2024 - 3 wickets at 64.66
So, he's either been injured (and we really do not want another injury prone bowler on our books) or he wasn't picked for those two seasons because he simply did not perform when he was. If we had re-signed him based on those two seasons, the same criticisms would have been made by us supporters. He wasn't offered a new contract by Sussex and has had more than six months to find another county which hasn't happened either.
Apart from Milnes, the only two seamers of ours that were re-signed were Quinn (who is combining playing with coaching Kent's age group sides and who took 8 wickets at 22.75 last season - as many as Karvelas did in two seasons) and Cohen (who offers something different being a left armer and who is a yard quicker than all of our bowlers - he was, admittedly, all over the place last season but we haven't been party to his injury struggles over the previous two years or where he is right now. Unlike the Kent management.
For the first match of the season I can see us playing the following five seamers:
Dudgeon
Milnes
Sturman
Stewart
Evison
That leaves out:
Quinn
Cohen
Jas Singh
Ekansh Singh
Curtiss
Flintoff
Let's not forget that Muthusamy is available from the 22nd May at which point Sturman will drop out.
The interesting one of all of those is Ekansh. He is, as I've been saying for years, a class batter who just needs that feeling of a big score rather than constant pretty 40s and 50s. What he never was is a bowler. He has worked really hard at his second discipline and although he isn't going to currently run through a side, he could easily turn out to be an all-rounder comparable to Evison. In seasons to come, having both in the side will completely change the balance of the team as we will always be able to play a frontline spinner and on rare occasions, when the conditions demand, two of them.

From a Sussex perspective Karvelas has always been a bit of a puzzle. We've probably got as many injury prone seamers as Kent with Robinson, Crocombe and Hunt all missing significant chunks of last season and new signing Dom Goodman comes from Glos with his own injury issues. With everyone fit including whichever overseas seamer we had at the time between Seales/McAndrew/Sandhu and Unadkat he wasn't someone that really screamed pick me in red ball at least.Addick Addict said:

One rather familiar name in the Sussex ranks (well two actually - Ollie Robinson started with us as did his namesake at Durham)

Kent 302-7 (73.4)
Everyone got into the 20s as a minimum and four batsmen "retired out" in the 40s. Sussex used 11 bowlers with Leaning taking the final wicket of the day in having Leaning caught and bowled off a full toss. So Sussex took three wickets with only one of those not being self-inflicted.
Tomorrow will be our opportunity to bowl and it will be interesting to see how we perform on what is, clearly, a docile track.2 -
Now this is possibly something and nothing but I did wonder why yesterday the squad changed from the advertised 13 to the extent that Muyeye didn't bat but Benjamin, who wasn't in the squad, did. Then today neither Stewart or Quinn have bowled but it looks like Daniel Burton, a Sussex scholar, has bowled for Kent in order to make up the numbers.
0 -
Milnes has just picked up his second wicket of the day. Had some bloke called Leaning LBW.1
-
Crawley is bowling for Kent. A. Crawley that is. Looks like another Sussex youngster helping us out.0
-
I should also add that, before we start thinking that all our bowlers are injured, I do know that Kent want to be doing the right thing so far as the meningitis situation is concerned. Again, this could have nothing to do with anything but one would imagine that anyone feeling even slightly unwell will be told not to play and to get checked out which might explain the absences of Muyeye, Quinn and Stewart.0

Just seen butterfill got a few overs towards the end, last I heard he was quite highly rated ?0
