Positives from the Sheff Utd game

We’ve basically mostly all had a negative rant about yesterday’s performance (me included) so I thought I’d start a separate thread for the positives that we can take from it so they are not lost in the general feeling in the Post match one.

3 points is all that matters and we got those

We had 4 strikers getting on the pitch and each of them look like they could be game changers for us going forward. We’ve struggled for goals, particularly of late, and it’s just possible that yesterday could have been the turning point in our season. We can start any two of those 4 and bring on the others in the game as and when we need to. (I’m definitely looking forward to Tuesday night because of this).

Godden again. No other words necessary.

we started the second half on the front foot and Carey got the goal - something we’ve not seen much likelihood of happening with our backs to the wall/ defend the Alamo approach in recent months. The revitalised attack will make this happen more frequently.

Almost 20k still turned up despite only one win in umpteen games

Clarke looked like he will be a big plus.

Ramsay was back

Kaminskis distribution needs some work but you can’t fault his shot stopping. That’s the crucial part of any team that wants to pick up points and win games

Two good transfer window signings (& counting ?) is always a positive sign

whilst we have all been focusing upon the danger of relegation, we probably should have been aiming to climb the table for another reason. 11 points off a play off place with a game in hand. Beat Pompey and that gap is 8 points. We closed a bigger one than that last season and this is a division where every team is likely to beat/lose to another. I’m not suggesting we can go up but if you believe you are relation folder then that’s what your negative play makes you become. Believe you are chasing promotion and you play like it and other teams become a little more wary of attacking us so freely (as they have been doing of late).

The only positive from yesterdays game was the 3 points we won , nothing else no matter how you dress it up.

It didn't rain on the walk home.

The jerk-chicken stall had been moved to a much better location.

Chippy was in good form at half-time.

    The post-match beer was ok.

    Our goalie played well.

As a fanbase if it is possible we seem to be less confident for the rest of the season after gaining 3 points ! I wonder how the players feel ?

We’ve got 4 strikers now available. Only recently we had none because the only one of them that was fit was Leaburn and we were basically stopping him from attacking. I’m pretty positive about the rest of the season now and definitely looking forward to Tuesday night.

the rest of the team will probably be upbeat as well because with any two of those strikers on the pitch and two to come on there is no way we’re going to get pressed back and have to defend the Alamo for yet another 90 minutes

Well done on starting this thread.
Yes we were awful but at least the players gave total effort and we got 3 points.
    Both new signings looked decent.
A decent refereeing performance - the SU players were giving the WS Lino dogs abuse from the time that Knibbs wasn’t booked for his foul and throughout the two red card incidents. Sitting just behind the Lino a couple of their players could/should have been carded for the comments to him - what happened to only the captain being able to approach officials?

1 negative I’ve not seen mentioned in CL - At the end why was Wilder allowed to walk to the AC stand and hand his coat over to one of 2 SU fans in AC stand

I’ve no problem with Wilder doing that and, imo, it’s a compliment to the fans of our club and that stand in particular that he felt he could do it.

Dykes first touch was possibly the best header of our season so far.
Ramsay’s worst performance in a Charlton shirt was in a match that we won. I doubt he’ll play like that on Tuesday (assuming he plays).
Kelman’s poor game makes it easier to drop him for Godden.
Clarke got minutes under his belt, and looked good. Perhaps try him at RCB and move Ramsay to right back.
    Jones wasn’t injured.
Coventry will be fresh for Tuesday.
  • Clarke was a massive positive. Not just his solid performance, he got through the full 90 without any issues but most importantly in his FIRST game he was shouting at players and demanding from them too. Looks like another leader that we desperately need on the pitch

It's the last game we'll see Bree in a Charlton shirt, at least for this season....kinda joking, kinda not.

Hopefully that was our "darkest before the dawn" moment and from here it's going to get better... if only because it can hardly get worse.

3pts, are we really at that point where it’s ok for us to say, we’ve won, but I don’t want to win like that? It was poor but let’s not get too precious. Onto Tuesday with the chance to be better.

I thought they were the best fans to come to The Valley this season. Have nothing against them or Wilder. Wednesday on the other hand...

    We got the 3 points
Kaminski is forever proving what a good signing he is
Clarke and Dykes had decent debuts
We are still clear of the relegation 3

Incredible that these comments are coming after a win against Sheffield United.

Not a dig at the comment, I kind of get it, but amazed at the reaction. It feels like it wouldn’t be as extreme if we failed to win.

If it’s ok and I know it’s against the grain for some on here, but I’m having my glass half full. After all I take pleasure in watching charlton win.
