'The Lennie Lawrence Dinner'

Let’s be honest if you wanted to go for a meal you wouldn’t choose The Valley.
So £120 for an average meal you don’t really want, to hear Lenny Lawrence talk, is double what is reasonable.
Especially when you’ve heard him talk for free on a number of previous occasions.6 -
Well overpriced IMO , especially if you attend these kind of events/go to games , as a couple.Covered End said:Let’s be honest if you wanted to go for a meal you wouldn’t choose The Valley.

Anyone who pays that ticket price has more money than sense .0

Or I am happy to contribute to the former players association as its a good cause, and I get a good night out with some of my heros.Bedsaddick said:Anyone who pays that ticket price has more money than sense .8 -

Opportunity for a night out and as you say
to mix with heroes of yesteryear
The price is will always be subjective but each to their own
I will never forget the day when the gates were locked and we were literally minutes away from being totally shut down
I was also at Carlisle when we got Promotion on a magical day when a certain manager was carried around the pitch after the game
That manager was Lennie Lawrence and I am more than happy to be there for his evening

a niche crowd for this one, as previously commented - whilst he's a legend, a large chunk of our support won't have a clue really about what he did here0

Which is a shame as he’s at least as important as Curbs in our historyElthamaddick said:a niche crowd for this one, as previously commented - whilst he's a legend, a large chunk of our support won't have a clue really about what he did here5 -
I totally agree about Lennie's place in our history, and as I said before on the thread, it is overpriced. The publicity on the official website definitely says "Guests will enjoy a two-course dinner and a live Charlton-themed auction during what promises to be a truly memorable evening.". So if it is three courses, they are selling it short...
Did they find a title sponsor, BTW?0 -
That’s because it’s never been celebrated enough imho.Elthamaddick said:a niche crowd for this one, as previously commented - whilst he's a legend, a large chunk of our support won't have a clue really about what he did here
If I could be there, I would in a heartbeat.
I hope everyone has a fabulous time.5 -
Which is why the pricing is ridiculous. What a great introductory event this could be for someone like me to hear some stories from the man himself. That's the kind of thing that humanises these tales and makes them more engaging. The less my generation knows about Lennie, the quicker it will sadly be forgotten.KBslittlesis said:

Looking forward to this. The pricing is steep but, for me personally, it's an opportunity to pay tribute to The Len, make a contribution to the Former Players' Association and Brownie's work and see some of our old heroes like Peter Shirtliff and John Humphrey.
A couple of the younger generation are also coming along as (1) it will be a great night and (2) it helps put flesh on the bones of a vital and momentous period in our history. No one who was lucky enough to be there will forget Carlisle 1986, the play-off win at St Andrews, sending Chelsea into the play-offs after the 1-1 at Stamford Bridge (and the Player of the Year event in the Valley Club later that evening) and how Lennie and the players defied the odds to keep us up for 4 seasons.12 -
Without Sir Lennie I suspect our future successes may not have followed.0

Seven summer signings in 1985, of whom only one did not contribute significantly to promotion. Four home league games at The Valley.shirty5 said:3
