Saw Levante play Amorebieta in the Copa del Rey in 2023, they lost 1-0. We were going to see them last December when we were in Valencia, but the bad weather put us off buying tickets. Just as well as the match was called off even though the predicted storm didn't actually arrive.
Also went to see Motherwell play Rangers at Hampden in 2024, they lost 2-1. Fucking nightmare getting public transport back to the city centre from there.0 -
@Big William Mrs treated him and myself to a trip to Inter Milan back in 2000 has part of his 40th birthday celebrations and we have gone every year and sometimes twice a year since, with likes of @MOBY DUCK and @bolloxbolder. FORZA INTER!!!0

Some great trips for sure - been getting homesick seeing the Duomo Milano (cathedral to you non Italians) in the winter olympics coverage this week.Bilko said:@Big William Mrs treated him and myself to a trip to Inter Milan back in 2000 has part of his 40th birthday celebrations and we have gone every year and sometimes twice a year since, with likes of @MOBY DUCK and @bolloxbolder. Other than trips to Italy, I went to Chicago in 2000, there was a 4 way tournament across the USA for Ireland, Mexico, South Africa and the US.
As luck would have it, Ireland played Mexico at Soldier Field with our man Deano in goal - Ireland came back from 2-0 to draw 2-2. I got caught in the crossfire when a bloke waved an Irish flag at the Mexicans behind me and they opened up with a storm of cheesy tortilla chips in his direction, I discovered that one of those hitting your ear at speed is bloody painful.0 -
That’s really useful to know.ValleyGary said:I remember we went Greece in the 90’s and my old man took us Olympiakos v Panathinaikos. Absolute helmet. I was about 5 and people were throwing not only stones but stuff like kettles. Nothing on the Valley but a learning curve.
Was thinking of going back to Greece again this year, if I do pay a visit and there chucking kettles around, I’ll make sure I pack some tea bags, decaf mind.0 -
Stayed in a place called Lagos in Portugal years ago, when it was still a relatively small fishing town, and me and my cousin made the 3 hour trip north to watch Sporting Lisbon v Rapid Vienna in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. Think it was 1995 and Lisbon won 2-0
Main thing I remember though was the squalor surrounding the ground back then. Not sure if it's any better now??0 -
We watched Orlando City when we went to Florida, liked the attacking football and started to follow their results and games on tv. We got the chance to go again when we were there a few years later and they had moved to their new purpose built stadium.
We also saw them on a later trip to New York when they were away at NY Red Bulls and went to that. Saw a bloke in a NY Bradley Wright-Phillips shirt but was in the toilets so a conversation seemed inappropriate!
I quite enjoyed MLS but lost track a bit since the games moved to Apple tv unfortunately0 -
The last match I specifically travelled to the Addicks against Swansea in November.
Travelled to Milan to watch AC beat Roma 1-0. Stayed in Como and visited Como and Milan on that weekend.
Cologne v Düsseldorf 1-0
Bayer Leverkusen v Schalke 04 0-1
Schalke v Düsseldorf 0-1

I've got a trip to the San Siro booked in a few weeks to see Inter v Atalanta, can't wait - first time I've been to Milan so would love to hear any tips/recommendations! @Big William @BilkoBilko said:@Big William Mrs treated him and myself to a trip to Inter Milan back in 2000 has part of his 40th birthday celebrations and we have gone every year and sometimes twice a year since, with likes of @MOBY DUCK and @bolloxbolder. There's not that much to do, and you can do the entire city in a day.Rufus is a dogs name said:

Mrs JB booked a trip to Barbados for us and it was only when I mentioned it to two of my friends and they said do you realise England are playing out in the Caribbean that month? As it happens, England was playing in Bridgetown during the 10 days I was out there and I managed to tick the England away bucket list box. Still can't believe my luck now tbh despite it being an absolutely bang average day cricket-wise and I think I saw all 4 seasons on weather in one session.
Believe you me, had Mrs JB known the cricket was on at the time we went, there's f*ck all chance she would have booked it.1 -
Most important thing for the game is to remember your passport, as they do check ids. Food/drink wise there are loads of vans outside selling a wide range of things, I've always found them pretty good, the choice inside the stadium is much more limited. You can have a beer watching the game unlike here, they even have guys selling them on trays in the aisles. At the end, the Stadio San Siro metro gets very busy, the alternative is Lotto station which is about 15 minutes walk. The stadium itself is stunning, sadly they are going to replace it in the next few years, the new one will be right next to it, a la Tottenham.Rufus is a dogs name said:

The centre of Milan itself is quite small, I'd say the must see is the Duomo (cathedral) and the Galleria next to it. You can get a lift up to the top of the Duomo and walk around the roof which gives you some great views. If you fancy a bit of culture, MIchelangelos Last Supper is about 20 mins walk down Via Torino, if you're interested in that you'll need to book well in advance.
After dark the liveliest area is the Canal quarter, easiest way to get there is the metro to Porta Genova. The area around Corso Garibaldi is pretty good as well, and it's not as packed as the canal area. Most places in Milan do an early evening "Aperitivo" which is basically a buffet, you either pay up front or they add a bit to the drink prices while it's running. This is a good guide A beginner's guide to aperitivo in Milan | City Unscripted
We normally take in another game over the weekend, there are quite a few Serie A/B/C teams in the region, the rail connections to most places are pretty good. If you don't fancy a football overload, you could try a trip to places like Como, Bergamo or Verona which are all worth visiting.3 -
Went to watch Elgin v East Fife whilst on a whisky trip to Speyside last year. Was bloody freezing.2

gringo said:Been to a few in Spain @ Seville and Palma (Majorca)- interesting experience, and walking out through mountains of Pippas shells (sunflower seeds) which are constantly been nibbled throughout the game.Went to real betis v bilbao this year.
exactly the same thing with the nuts! Other fans even offered me some.
average atmosphere. Nice that away fans could sit with home fans and be vocal. No beer in the stadium. Think this is a la liga rule? Was very hot. After visiting the city (seville) i wondered why signing for both clubs isnt more popular amongst players. Also went to Pafos (cyprus) v villareal champions league game. Pafos ultras gave it a go to be fair. But also terrible atmosphere given most of crowd were tourists on holiday. Dont think u could buy beer there either
also for both i had to create some sort of government profile to get fans id cards to allow me to buy tickets.1 -
Wandered into the Adelaide Oval once to watch about 15 minutes of a Sheffield Shield match. Just after bumped into another Charlton fan in Adelaide Cathedral. Was gutted when he told me they'd replayed the Arsenal 2 Charlton 4 match on TV the night before as there were no PL games that weekend. I'd missed it a week or so before as we were flying into Melbourne at the time.0

About 60 years ago on a family holiday in Selsey, went to see the local side against an Inland Revenue team.0

Back in the early 90s I saw Bilbao draw 0-0 with Real Sociedad. Boring game
Seen Barca beat Atletico 6-1 early 2000s. Not a boring game
Ross County v St Jonnstone 2-1 (other half doesn't like the heat) Nice little stadium
Berwick Rangers v Heriot Watt University 2-0 - friendly ground, bit ramshackle, was good.
If we go anywhere me and my daughter do now look out for any local games.0 -
When I was in Spain in 1993 a mate and I went to Atletico v Rayo Vallecano for a relegation decider on the last day of the season. The atmosphere was incredible, though we were baffled by Spain’s lack of an away fans culture. The Atletico fans were pretty intense, bordering on unhinged.0

Watched HMP Belmarsh v HMP Wandsworth when I was last away. Good feisty local derby. Some crunching tackles. Not many there though.8

Not seen a game there but the stadium tour is well worth doing if you can schedule it in.Rufus is a dogs name said:

Went to Espanyol v Barcelona about 10 years ago - no away fans allowed and our tickets were in a Fulham-style tourist end. Very eerie to see Barcelona score five times with hardly any reaction in the ground (apart from in the tourist end!).
Djurgårdens v Molde in the Conference League a few years back - cracking match (Djurgårdens won 3-2) and great fans. Only found out about the match as my train was pulling into Stockholm and thankfully there were still tickets available.
Viktoria Köln v VfB Oldenberg in the German third league while on the same trip - poor match but fun chatting with the locals.
Utrecht v Emmen on the last day of the Dutch season three years ago.
Also been to Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia (reserves but wanted to see the ground) and Hearts v Hibs while on various trips.

Yeah I do this semi regularly, try and get a city break with a game and a gig in with my brother once a year.
Did RB Leipzig v Wolfsburg
Going to see Koln in May
Just did Ghent Vs circle Brugge or some shit the other day, one of the worst games I've ever seen, dire football.
I try to go to Bergamo as often as I can, should go and see Atalanta.
My best one was AC Milan v Bologna, got a message a week before to tell me that he game was moved from Sunday to Friday (which I couldn't do) and they were kind enough to give no refunds, pricks. Got a Bologna top after that.
Really decent in Europe with a pint at the seat etc.0 -
Love to watch a game abroad.
Did Bayern Munich v Atletico Madrid.
PSV v Fortuna Sittard
Seville v Oviedo
RB Salzburg v Schalke
Seville had the cleanest toilets I've ever seen at a football stadium... By a few thousand country miles.

Hammerby? God knows for the other game - European game wasn’t it?Off_it said:0 -
How do people guarantee that games don't get changed. Be frustrating to book a weekend trip to somewhere in Spain only to find the game suddenly changed to FRiday for TV?0

This is more about catching matches while away rather than going out specifically for the match, isn't it?redman said:How do people guarantee that games don't get changed. Be frustrating to book a weekend trip to somewhere in Spain only to find the game suddenly changed to FRiday for TV?In any case, there's not much you can do - either book when you know the fixture date or just take a long weekend and relax the rest of the time. I don't think any of the other big European leagues have Monday night matches (yet) so at least you don't have to worry about that.1 -
Seria A has a regular Monday night game that can be announced just 9 days previously. Tends not to be the top 4 or so.1
