Why can't we have a politics discussion board?

Would be nice to gauge the temperature on a few things right now, imo. Strictly enforced good-faith argument rules, bans from the subboard if you contravene, etc. Feels absurd, in the current climate, that we can't discuss these rather pressing things

I get why, but it is a bit strange. The world is burning around our ears and we are talking about our favourite TV adverts!
  • I agree but I suspect it might require the admins to spend more time on moderating/banning than they would want to.

Absurd - not being able to discuss politics on a football forum? Really?
The inevitable arguments and name calling will return, requiring far too much time for volunteer mods to police, leading to eventual closure.
Plenty of cesspits on the internet available to discuss.
Yeah, my point is that I shouldn't have to go to a 'cesspit' to talk about things that are extremely important and relevant

I get that Bob, but some of the things going on in the world right now are having a serious effect on people's lives. This has always been a good place to bounce off like minds.

Like, try to see it my way for a second. Yes, I do have a few places I am an established member of where I could discuss these things, but these are places where everyone is pretty much already agreed, so discussion is almost worthless. A football forum is as good a place as any to obtain across-the-spectrum views, and a truer sense of where the UK is as a nation. Frankly speaking, the individuals who had the HoC shut down in the first place seemed to want it shut down

I'm glad it's gone, the house of commoners was the most toxic place in this forum.

No such thing as disagreeing agreeably online, it wouldn't end well.

Good morning sir! Are you saying, by any chance, that you're chicken? ;)

I used to like House of Commoners. A totally seperate part of this forum which meant politics didnt get involved in day to day CAFC discussion. Dont know what was wrong with it personally.

There is an element unable or unwilling to debate in a civil fashion particularly if views expressed do not source The Guardian or BBC.

In my opinion after nearly 20 years experience on Charlton Life.

I used to enjoy debating on the political threads I must admit.
But the same people seemed to hijack thread after thread.
It must have been a nightmare for the mods to keep having to get involved and very time consuming as well.
Keep politics of this forum say i.
  • If you want to argue about politics with people who chat utter nonsense for most of the time, just go on twitter.

I’ve just checked the temperature Leuth and it turns out it’s very cold. Freezing in fact.

’in the current climate’ is exactly the reason why we don’t want it. Hopefully this little corner of our lives can remain a nice sanctuary from all the spite, hate and serious stuff.

Don’t expect everyone to agree but I think most people can notice this place operates better without it. Grateful if everyone can continue to leave their politics at the door when they use the forum, and respect the ask. Cheers
If we can't have a political thread, might I suggest that we have one on the pros and cons of veganism? 🍆 🥒

Shame we can't see what Queenie's take on his leader being a turbo nonce is. :disappointed:

(Other) Places where people talk about politics and current affairs are not necessarily cesspits.
Charlton Life moderators don’t want it on this website, they are not obliged to explain or give reasons for their actions as the terms and conditions clearly state.

Okay, no politics discussion, I get it.

Events will unfold anyway. Get ready for the show, folks!

99% of this forum doesn't even know how the league table works- what chance for a nuanced debate about stuff that really matters.

The PizzaGate nutters didn't know how close to the truth they were, tbf. There really is a paedophile cabal running the world. The tiny detail that the cabal comprises all the people they support is barely here nor there

Various people couldn't discuss like adults, political disagreement got conflated with moral failure and degenerated into personal abuse (from both sides Len), and bad feeling that started over there leaked over into the main forum too often. I often found the discussions over there interesting, and having the option to say "take it over to the HoC" was handy at times, but it was just too much work to deal with on an on-going basis as it was, let alone with "strictly  enforced good-faith argument rules". And that was before the current batshit insanity unfolded.

I'm with AFKA that it's nice not to have to deal with all that stuff here.
